  • Your sentence for eternity!

Inspired by the itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie-yellow-polka-dot-bikin and powered by a large mug of Starbucks Sulawesi, brewed freshly ground with two tbsp of beans per 8 oz of coffeee (and am I ever going to have fun adjusting to Daylight Savings Time now after that jolt of caffeine tonight) ......

    *****************

Suppose you were sentenced for eternity to be forced to listen to 5 CDs or albums of your choosing, in endless loop. What five would you choose?

A couple of ground rules that come to me immediately. The album has to be a commercial album - not a special compilation you assemble. Also, if the album or CD has multiple discs or platters, each disc or platter counts individually.

For the benefit of others, if you can provide a link to the album with sample music (such as from emusic.com or site such as Barnes&Noble.com), that would be cool.

    ***

My five (at least the five I would pick tonight) are:
    1. Jubilant - Jubilant Sykes (but I might replace this with Jubilation, a new release of his - in collaboration with Christopher Parkening - that came out this week that I've only sampled).
    2. The Trinity Session - Cowboy Junkies
    3. Hot Buttered Soul - Isaac Hayes
    4. Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
    5. Beethoven's 5th and 6th Symphonies - both on one disc by Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

    “You shouldn't wear that body.”

Boca - I think that's eight. --- And now you're editing the post and you're up to nine!

Extensions is one that might make my list on another night. And Mozart is always a good choice - he might easily have made my list on another night - and the Horowitz is an excellent disc.

I know. I decided it was easier to change the definition of 5 than to reduce this list down.

This question is too complicated for casual night-time posters so I think I'll just spend eternity with B-Bum99. Good taste in music and willing to bend the rules.

By the way Mr. Nelson, who sang the Troglodyte song? I barely remember the song. What is the history?

Don't know the "Troglodyte song" - unless you're thinking of the Troggs, who did Wild Thing.

No, not the Wildthing Troggs. There was a song and I think the title was The Trogladytes (sp?) It was also "cutting edge" like the Barbarians with their song "Are you a boy or are you a girl?" (Top 40 no lie). Saw them at a concert at the armory in Fergus Falls. Drummer had one arm...and this of course was pre Iraq.

                Stevie,

Part of the lyrics were "gotta find a woman...and they were part of the butt sisters". Just found that on a google search and that's all I could find but I do remember those lines.

                  Mr. Nelson,
This should be of more importance to you than me since this T.rog...is your namesake. So sorry you had no idea where you came from. I hope this journey has a happy ending. And as I pause to think again, I'm quite sure the group Barbarians only sang the top 40 favorite: "Are you a boy, or are you a girl"? Did you know any Butt sisters? I think I knew a couple around Pelican Rapids, MN.

Can't help you much. My only memories of any bands from western MN is early- to mid-1960's. I vaguely remember a group called The Renegades that in the mid-1960's played dance halls in towns such as St. Cloud and Anoka. The only reason I remember them is because I saw some of their flyers posted on telephone poles in towns along Hwy 52 (before I-94 was built) and I always thought Renegades was a cool name for a band.

After 1969 Minnesota was mostly something I saw in the rear view mirror.

Factoid: the drummer for The Castaways "Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire" was Denny Craswell. When Liar, Liar was on the charts, Craswell was still in high school. He sat behind my 2-year older sister in English class at Richfield High School. After the Castaways split up, Craswell's next group was Crow. I remember Crow getting a bit of air play about 1970 or 1971 when I was in school in St. Louis (which was a town I put in the rear view mirror in 1973). But at that time in my life, I was spending a lot more time getting to know blues than 1970's rock.

I realize this has nothing to do with anything which really fits right in with most of these posts but: I just heard a song that I have not heard for mmmppfortyears...difficult to say that fortysomething... when it's not your age. Would be very happy now to be that age or so. Anyway the song I just hear on Sirrus Dish Network was: El Watusi by Ray Barretto
