  • What are your favorite Travel (Channel) Shows?

I am surprised to see no threads devoted to all the cool shows on the Travel Channel. Am I the only one addicted to those? I hope there will be discussions about these shows here...

    My favorites are:
    1. Anthony Bourdain - No reservations
    2. Globe Trekker
    3. Michael Palin's specials - (At present it is "Sahara!")
I also like Rachel Ray's shows...

I started watching the Travel Channel when Globe Trekker was named Lonely Planet. It was my favorite show and couldn't wait to watch each week. Since then my favorites are the same Kapish in different order: Globe Trekker, Anthony Bourdain, and Michael Palin.

Globe Trekker, formerly Lonely Planet. Ian rocks!!!

Globe Trekker is a "must watch"

One of the first shows which got me completely hooked was Ian's trip to Mongolia. I was amazed at the entire train's wheels had to be changed/adjusted at the border of China and Russia(?) in the middle of the night while the passengers are asleep- completely unaware of all this! I don't think I would ever go to this destination, so the only way to get some idea about this country is through this program...

Thanks to TiVO I can record these and watch or skip as I like at my leisure

I don't watch it much anymore, so I don't know if she is still on. But, my favorite personality was Samantha Brown.

I always thought she had the best job in the world.

I used to watch all the time. I loved Semantha Brown and Anthony Bourdain. Lately, it seems everything is the world poker tour, Las Vegas, or vacation home shows. I would love to see Rick Steeves on there as I find his shows very informative.

Samantha Brown's European travels are still on, but that show is mostly boring. GT and NR are always fun to watch because one never knows what they are going to do next!

Bourdain is great as he explores a lot off the beaten path, Globe trekker is informative but I agree that most of the time they are programming poker and other shows that are hard to relate to travel.

I agree! I started watching this show after accidentally stumbling on the episode where Ian goes to Mongolia ... where he goes out on a hunt with the tribals...

Ian then tries on Genghis Khan's outfits ... that was just too darn funny!
