Someone here, I think it was Faust, was asking last year about where to find African jazz in NYC.
On Friday night, we accidentally stumbled on Kofo the Wonderman at the Zinc Bar... he plays a Nigerian "talking drum," an amazing instrument, and sings. His band was excellent and tremendously talented.
Here's a link, I am having trouble finding any kind of tour information other than at Zinc Bar, but if he turns up in a city near you, it's worth a listen!
