  • Luciano Pavarotti Dies

Luciano Pavarotti died at age 71 of cancer.
I had the pleasure of meeting him some 30 years ago. I had no idea who he was even after hearing his name. He was best friends with my boss who owned a wine store. Pavarotti Had a vineyard in Italy. He came to our store and my boss called me over to introduce me. I shaked his hand and spoke Italian to him but I had no idea who he was. It was about 3 years later when I started to hear the name Pavarotti.

    Wow, you met Pavarotti? Wow!

Here he is, quite a few years ago, singing Nessun Dorma from Turandot.

Oh, how sad. I have always been a fan. That is a huge loss to the world of music. Now we have lost 2 greats in a short time.

Very sad but he made opera popular in this country, I believe. Interesting that you didn't know who he was but he wasn't as popular 30 years ago as he was the last 10 or 15 years or so. He was 71 so that makes me feel old.

I had the chance to see him in Boston back in the early '90s, however, for some reason I didn't want to spend the money to see him at the time.
          I've regretted it ever since.

We had to memorize this poem back in junior high and I am reminded of it now, "......spend all you have for loveliness, buy it and never count the cost...."

          He enriched the world.
