I thought the Carson Wells role was needed to show the skill level. He found Moss within 3 hours; he was leaps ahead of Moss--and Sheriff Bell--and he was soon dead. He tells us that if it took him 3 hours to find Wells, Chigurh will find it child's play. It was also another opportunity to see Chigurh's twisted reasoning. Wells knows Chigurh well, and it is from him that we learn that Chigurh has his own code of honor, which sets us up for killing the wife later (and letting Sheriff Bell go?). Wells also actually tells Chigurh how crazy Chigurh is (but I think we've already got a good sense of that).

That was another thing I was wondering about. how did they find him so fat? At first Chirguh was following the beeper, but how did Harrelson find Moss so quickly? but I agree it showed how skiller they were, how scary.
The book must be interesting. I think it wold be hard to portray the kind of man that Chirguh was.
