Yes and no. Having been through two bouts of family death following dementia, I find that there is both sadness and relief. The sadness comes from losing the loved one- even before their passing. The relief is the end of the pain and agony for those giving care. At any rate it is a hard thing for a family to deal with.

            I'm with Tony.
My 89 year old Mother is in her last phase of dementia and never wanted to live like this. She said this many times when before the dementia took hold.
            Night of the living dead.

As for Heston, loved the acting. Disagreed with the NRA stance, but of course, who am I ? Just the RN at a major trauma center ICU who had to irrigate, dress GSWs, not to mention post-mortem care before wrapping & tagging them down to the morgue.

I have started to reply to this post, modified it, canceled it, started over and now have decided just to say that I agree with Beaglemom3.

There are too many guns in the wrong hands and they do too much damage.

That being said, I am going to end up with several guns (mostly shotguns, couple rifles and some other guns or accessories) because my %*)# brother can't keep his nose clean. I have a bad sleepwalking problem. I will need to make sure I can't use the guns while I am asleep, either by disabling the weapons or eliminating ammunition. I don’t want a sleep event to end up with gunfire.

I used to agree with the people who wanted gun control I had a sister who committed suicide at the age of 23 by using my Dad's shotgun so I never wanted to have a gun in the house.

That was until I woke up one night in May of 1984 with a burglar standing next to my bed. I screamed and he ran and fortunately he was probably more scare than I was. But I realized I had nothing in the house to protect myself.

The following week a law enforcement friend took me to a shop where I bought a 38 Smith and Wesson and he took me to the firing range and taught me to use it. That's a little like closing the barn door once the horse is gone.

I've married since then and my husband has a concealed weapons permit and so do I. Incidents like Virginia Tech and some of the recent shootings at McDonalds and Wendys just show you what happens when there is an unarmed public is faced with a nut who has no regard for any laws or anyone else's rights. If such a nut would happen to open fire in our church or a restuarant he wouldn't get many rounds off.

I'm for gun control as long as responsible people are controlling the guns.
                Maggie

How coincidences tend to occur ! I'm right now watching a show on Alzheimer's disease on Public TV. They now have a test (PET) which can detect that it will onset. There also appears to be some steps now that one can take to stop the disease from happening along with many cures possibly in the near future. We now have Aricept which helps some but not all.

                    Very sad.

Just once I'd like to read a story where a nut case was stopped from killing 10 or 15 people by someone who was carrying a concealed weapon. We have family members that are retired and active duty police officers, so we've been taught gun safety/respect from an early age.

I'm all for the police and those with an extensive background check & clearance(criminal, medical/drug & psychological- ) to have them.
Again, it's the interpretation of the 2nd amendment which confounds us as a nation.

                        Yes, excellent.
The problem with real life is that there is no background music.

Huh? Sorry, I don't get the connection...

I enjoyed his movies, disagreed with his politics. I respect his American right to voice his opinions. I simply don't share his view on the "right to bear arms." And I also would like to hear of an incident where a common citizen with a handgun or automatic "saved" someone from a crazed lunatic with a gun.
The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all or cannot do so well for themselves”- Lincoln
