So last week I told hubby, "Mom and dad are coming next Friday, plus it's performance week, meaning I don't want to do anything I don't absolutely have to." So Saturday, as we're discussing our next week schedule as usual, he tells me he just made an appointment for one kid at the doctors on Monday, and he can't take the three to the dentist on Tuesday after all, and he's going to make an appointment for something on his car sometime this week... after noticing the steam pouring out of my ears, he decided the car, at least, could wait. Add in my usual stuff and when I am going to make yeast bread this week I do not know (eldest will take over a lot of stuff, but yeast bread is not part of her repertoire yet).

Then today he calls me up, right after I ran my ballet girl in to the theater and had big hopes of squeezing some yeast rolls into my schedule by faking dinner, and says, "Oh, by the way, we can't go to Wilderness Wildlife Week this January after all; the sale of the company will probably go through that week and I'll have a huge project at work as soon as it's finalized. So could you drop everything and quick find us a vacation somewhere at least two weeks later?"

This morning I got a pan of bars in before I ran my middle daughter to her violin lesson (slid to her violin lessons, more like -- yesterday was colder but today the roads are slicker) -- bars I have made dozens of times before -- got back home to cut them, and realized I forgot the sugar. Right after I put on the tea kettle without filling it with water first, and didn't notice it until the burning smell clued me in.

That's it! I'm feeding them fish sticks every night! And hubby's making them, lest I burn the things!

I guess some days ya just can't win for losin'...

The kids tossed the sugar-free bars out in the garden, and the feral cats and other critters appreciated them.

Put a bowl of cat food out by the heated water bowl today (which is over by the side of the house instead of near my outdoor cathouse so I doubt my cats will defend it), for the local underfed or feral cats today -- we've lived here twenty years and it's never been this cold before!
