We're all trying to be "purists", but if Steve had replied to my "Brown Eyed Girl" with, say, "Girl from Ipanema", I can say that almost certainly the game would be over. So we bend the rules a little bit to carry on.
Often it can be hard to impossible to link precisely to the last word of the previous title. For example, while many song titles end in "me:, nothing ever begins with "me" because it's grammatically incorrect to start a phrase with me - so it's ok to change "me" to "I". We've also decided that it's ok to ignore one or two words at the beginning of a song title, particularly where those are words such as "the", "my" or most any adjective. So after a song end in "girl", the next song title could be something like "That Little Girl Knows How to Dancer".
And sometimes when we get really stuck - where there isn't a good link from the last word of a song title - getting creative is allowed, When I ended a song with Bernadette, for example, someone had the inspiration to make the next song "Bern(adettte)ing Down the House". Or Lawren and I will run a song title in reverse when we get stuck.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
