      Heading out to Orlando to do the Disney parks. Gonna see my sister -- whose doctor just told her she's going to be using a cane for the next two months -- and a friend I haven't seen in over twenty years, and my friend's mother.

          New Mexico Cadillac - Rosemary Butler

          Rosemary Butler and David Lindley (also on the video) were part of Jackson Browne's band when he featured The Load-Out/Stay. Ms. Butler is the female voice that comes in right after the transition to Stay, and David Lindley does the falsetto that comes shortly after. Butler has quite a bit of backup work, but never really broke through as a solo artist. Similarly with David Lindley - a very accomplished musician on many string instruments; whenever there is a steel guitar on a Jackson Browne song, Lindley is likely the artist.

              IMHO - Nina Simone was the worthy successor to Billie Holliday. She aspired to be a classical performer, but as a black woman that wasn't viable. So she charted her own course.

              This rendition of the blues classic, Trouble in Mind, is one of my favorite pieces of hers. Sometimes I put it on repeat and listen over and over. Like Aretha Franklin, she was a masterful blues pianist, as skilled with the piano as she was vocally.

                  Did Disney World this past month. Totally stressed out the first week because my sister was coming out for the first time and I knew she was just humoring me. Day she came out is the same day a friend I haven't seen in twenty years drove up (she lives in Florida), had a wonderful talk with my old friend (and her mother, part of the time), and then sister had a wonderful time at WDW (she had thought it was all rides, I suspect, while I only do a couple of rides a day, myself). Sister is a musician and was totally blown away by a lot of the Disney performers -- and by the fact that there were so many of them. So my second week I actually enjoyed. Kids and hubby enjoyed both weeks. But I'm glad our next vacation is a week at the beach.

                    Sister Rosetta is a little known gem, who deserves to be in the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame. Because, you know, all Chuck Berry did was copy Sister Rosetta and bringing it to a white audience. If you're skeptical, watch this. Tough to duckwalk in a dress, or I'm sure she would have - at least in her younger days.

                        I <3<3 Sister Rosetta. Here's another clip to whet your appetite. This is from recovered video of tours of England made by US blues artists in the 1960's. Those trips were extremely influential. Many of the British invasion rock bands, including the Beatles, the Stones, and the Animals, were inspired by these performances.

                        Thanks to the Hendrix Experience (yes, that's Jimi Hendrix related) there are four CDs available of the BBC recordings of these tours. They are available on Amazon and make wonderful Christmas stocking stuffers. Use your TS Forums link to Amazon to purchase (as I did) and support the site while sharing joy with your loved ones and spreading appreciation of most-deserving Sister Rosetta.

                        +++++++

                        Shameless Sister Rosetta plugging aside, here's my continuation of this ever-so-awesome thread:
