That is a song of tremendous meaning for me. I was dating a wonderful girl my senior year of high school, and it turned quite serious. We graduated, and both went away to separate colleges. Afterward, when I got in my car and pulled out of her driveway to go home, listening to top-40 KDWB radio (amazing how you remember certain details), "The Long and Winding Road" came on. I held myself together for another block, where I could safely and discretely pull over to the side of the road until I could pull myself together again.
The rest of that summer was enchanting. We started planning the wedding for the summer after we graduated - two years off. Six months later she found someone else and said goodbye. The usual "You're a nice guy, but ..." sign off.
Ahhh .... the travails of young love. Of course, if it hadn't been for her I wouldn't have met my wife.
