  • Getting ready to sing some karaoke tonight

I'm here at Smugglers Notch getting ready for Adult Karaoke Night...a personal tradition for me. (Family karaoke was earlier and my daughter sang.)

Here are my song plans for tonight:

    Georgy Girl by the Seekers

    Help by the Beatles

Summer Lovin' from Grease if I can find a sucker to sing with me since my husband won't be caught dead at Karaoke night. The changes of finding a duet partner increase as the night goes on and the drinks flow...

If you had to sing at Karaoke, what would you choose?

You'd either have to get me very, very drunk.......or shoot me first.

We had a karaoke party once and someone sang Bohemian Rhapsody. Can you imagine??? Gives new meaning to the term "self-confident"!

Let's Do the Time Warp is a good one b/c you don't have to be much of a singer--it's all about your pelvic thrust technique.

I figure IF I was to ever do karaoke, I might try White Wedding, Billy Idol. I have trouble finding the right song that I can actually follow most of the tune. Somehow, my ears and my pitch don't match up very well, and that may be my best bet.

I passed on the opportunity to do karaoke in that very venue, twice this summer.
Sharon, You're brave and probably have a decent singing voice....

However, might, just might, practice for next summer.

DH and a Smugglers' friend who comes up same week were kidding around during the karooke night, and said they would practice this year so they can do what we were calling a 'transexual medley' : (not that there is anything wrong with that), singing to each other:::

"I Feel Pretty" (in tutus perhaps?)
              "I Am Woman"
"You;re the One That I Want"
and a couple of others whose titles escape me at the moment...
(and they came up with this idea without the benefit of alcohol)

I just looked. They're pretty good! (If I had a couple of drinks in me I would think they were VERY good!)

Karaoke is all about stage presence, isn't it?

Remember when the New York Times used to refer to Meat Loaf as "Mr. Loaf"?

I missed the performance that night on the cruise....but a thoughtful shipmate posted it.

There will be a repeat performance over Labor Day weekend at our summer place end of year party - SUCH a classic!

So Sharon, is your performance on YouTube yet?

I'm using a laptop up here that is either not equipped to view videos well (they freeze after two seconds) or it's the connection. I just looked and saw enough to see that a.) It's not Meatloaf and b.) Someone looks familiar...lol....

                        Who are the singers?

P.S. Pat, my performance will never be on Youtube...lol. That is a combination of a lack of technical savvy and a complete aversion to being on the internet. You will just have come one year and sing with us in person!

you never KNOW when people are taping you.....my husband was VERY surprised to this this when we returned from our cruise - his partner was a shipmate on the 'Ship Of Fools' Disney Transatlantic Cruise last summer.

In my neighborhood in wisconsin, Karaoke is all the rage.
Several couples have their own karaoke machines and there are karaoke parties a few times a year.
One couple has been known to play in our golf outing, stick around for dinner and drinks, and then go home and sing karaoke with each other til 1 in the morning.
I myself sang backup with a group of four to Neil Diamonds' Today. that is the extent of my singing talent.
At a very large party (maybe 60 people) they brought out the karaoke machine after dinner. AT one point, there was a huge group singing and another, sober group watching. They might have started out singing well, but by this time, it was really bad. So if you are visiting Christmas Mountain village and you hear strange music in the evening, it is the neighbors.
