My son who bought my house in PA is still without power. I just read an article in the local paper there that says they will be out until Saturday! They have a 5 mos old son. School bus can't come to the house because there is a tree down on the street. No power there also means no water since they have a well and septic. Glad I moved south!

Sounds right. N Star (southeastern Mass) reported 180,000 without power - 30% of our town is still out. We were only down about 36 hours - guess we're counted as the lucky ones. This is getting real old quick!

Still no power/water/phone here in Fairfield County, at least for us. Would kill for a generator right now.

I had arranged to borrow a generator yesterday morning to power up the Fridge and Freezer, but the power came back on. Phone and DSL was out much of the day yesterday and I had no cell phone service until several hours after the power came back. Lights were flickering a bit about an hour ago here. Looks like we and our closest neighbors will be shopping for generators in the next month or so. I heard one town in the Berkshires got 34", my guess is that we got 20-25" here. We are all on wells here- so no power-no water.

Tony: We put in a standby generator after the great ice storm. Runs on natural gas. Comes on automatically. Powers most everything (the size you buy determines that) except air conditioner and hot tub.

I highly recommend this. It comes on about ten seconds after power goes out. Running on natural gas, there is no reason to run to a gas station and get in fights with people over the limited supply of gasoline. No natural gas? A switch allows you to use propane.

You may buy one from a local company that will charge an arm and a leg to put it in. Perhaps that is the way to go. I acted like my own general contractor. Bought the generator on the internet, a friend who owed me a favor did the electrical work (I paid his buddy because it was so complicated), and our plumber did the natural gas hook-up for a reasonable fee. Easily saved $2,000 this way over the local company estimate.

Been running continuously now since about 10:00 pm Saturday.

There are a lot of people in CT without power. The few who are getting power still have no phone or TV. CT was hit hard. CL&P have gotten so large they are unable to handle this.

What a mess CT is. CL&P are not able to handle so many power outages.
