Unbelievable. Only 46 years old. Sad for his family and friends...

A young man I know OD'd last October. His parents have been childhood friends of ours from the neighborhood. We have shared all of the life long moments with this family. Summer outings, weddings, births, some elderly funerals of the grandparents and mother.

But never to a 22 yo son. It was tragic. This kid was younger than my own son! They have been devastated ever since.

On Long Island it has been a problem for a couple of years now. I just fail to understand! So stupid and so avoidable!

I don't know why Long Island has been so much worse than other areas. It moves up to colleges with them, too. DS had a problem with a junkie in his frat. I think it's in part because it is so inexpensive, and has become far more accessible due to international issues.

Off topic - sorry - but heroin deaths on Long Island have kept climbing the past few years, and now that the authorities have cracked down on the abuse of prescription pain killers, young people are turning to heroin because it is cheap and readily available.
I know one young man who OD'd last Valentines Day, and my son has lost 9 friends since high school to overdoses. They are 25 now.

My son is a recovering pain pill addict and that drug scares the hell out of me.

Sorry. Off my soap box now.
                  RIP PSH

Cape Cod has a HUGE herion problem Several of my son's classmates have died over the years since high school; he will be 33 in Freruary. He too is a recovering addict. His started with perscribe pain killers for denenerative discs. His doctor kept prescribing and one day just refused to renew the perscription. The rest is history, he was addicted.

Vermont is in the top 10 of states for drug abuse of opiates. It is everywhere, and it is destroying our youth.
