  • Ice storm in New England

Ice in northern CT and MA this morning. The lights have flickered twice so far. Hopefully rain later this morning will wash it away.

We are getting pounded with rain on LI...... I have water coming into my basement. I just replaced a window a couple of months ago that was guaranteed to be water-proof....They lied!!!

Our basement is still dry, but the yard is filling up fast, in one corner the water is less than 10 feet from the house, the yard looks like a lake. Construction up the block has redirected all the water through the yards and ending up in ours. The drywell doesn't seem to be working. I can't stay home today so I sure hope this lightens up fast.

              Great.
My unfinished basement will look like an indoor pool by tomorrow.

Could be worse. Could be snow.

                    OK you are both right.
We have already gotten 2.33 inches of rain.
The ground is frozen so the water has no where else to go but in.

My dog was barking early this morning. The water made it into his mat which is on the top step of the basement going out. At first I thought he went inside then I saw it was clear. My yards drain is not making the water go, The pipe must be frozen. Anyway it's not bad right now. there might be a gallon of water that came in but because the step is slightly angeled the water is in one spot.

DH went out wading with garbage bags around his legs and hooked up the submersible pump, so if it can keep up with what's coming in to the yard we'll be ok

Sharon, the basement is no place for a piano... I hope it's ok.

We had ice up here in upstate NY. The cars and driveway were covered this AM but it had turned over to rain. Had to scrape the cars but looks like the rain is melting it a bit now. Guess I should get out there and clean off my driveway while it is a little soft from the rain before it turns cold again and I have a skating rink out there.

I was just capitalizing on the "could be worse" theme...I don't have a piano in my basement. In fact, I only have an upright piano (sigh) and it's in the living room. (In fact, it's the only thing in that room...lol! I was hoping that after 11 years in the house, I could maybe get some furniture one of these days....)

good, I'm glad it was only hypothetical, and that your piano, upright or not, is in the living room. In my house if they had to choose b/t furniture or a piano, piano would win hands down (no pun intended)...
