  • Ahroooo! Beagles Rule !

........ at least tonight at Westminster.

2008 Dog Show - News, Events, Finalists, Dog Breeds & Awards - WestminsterKennelClub.org

Uno looks so much like my dear, dear Scooter.

All the dogs were great, but the Beagle got a standing ovation when picked as "Best In Show".

    Way to go, Uno !
    Ahroooo ! Ahroooo !

So if you couldn't have a Patriots' win, is this the next best thing?

I'm glad the Beagle won! A first, yes?

What a wonderful dog! A crowd favorite, knowing that everyone's dog has a chance!

Our dock dog Dock loved it, and I mean it in every sense of the word. Each time a dog came out and went through it's paces, she quit whatever she was doing and ran over to the TV and stared at it. For the ones she really liked, she jumped up and down and barked.

Same thing for the commercial with the little dog looking at itself in the mirror.

Same thing when we (she) watches Animal Planet.

We DVDed the Best in Show round, so she can watch it again, and again. And I DVDed her watching it, and barking.

Anyone else have a dog that watches TV . . . actually watches it and responds?

Uno and I are from the same hometown. Belleville, Illinois!

This is strangely, at least it seems strange to me, big news in the St. Louis area today. I heard about it on multiple radio stations on my drive to work and it was all on the local evening news broadcasts.

Beagles are cool dogs. Laid back with that funny howl, it is cool that a non-snooty type breed won that thing. I bet a lot of high society snobs got their panties in a bunch with them picking a beagle.

Power to the common man (or dog at least).

Lucy, my almost 13 year old Beagle (Scooter's widow) used to watch the Animal Planet station when she was a pup. She used to emote/interact with the animals who were on at the time. Also, she used to sit and stare at herself in the full length mirror.
As she's gotten older, I don't see that behavior anymore.

No. But is there any more heartbreaking advertisement than the one where the dog doesn't get adopted and watches the people leave? I almost can't watch it (although that is one well trained dog).

All dogs are great and all the dogs there are champs, however, the pom-pom poodle, which has won before, was wearing a little thin with some of the general dog-loving population. Poodles are great and considered the most intelligent breed by many (I'm not poodle-bashing here, so please no nasty-mail), however, a basic, non-foofoo (or is it FuFU?) breed was overdue.
I'm predjudiced (does it show ?).

Beagles are really cool dogs and high on our list if we were to ever get a dog. Personally I prefer the Australian Shepherd but they need a lot of activity.

When my wife and I were first a couple we had a landlord with a beagle.
We took it for walks. When my wife went into a store to shop I stayed outside with the dog. Wow.....what a girl magnet....If I had only known when I was single....I would be walking beagles everyday.

We have 'sort-of adopted' our neighbors dogs who are almost empty nesters and so the kids and parents don't give them enough of their time. We have two kids who have always wanted a dog....they have them anytime they want but don't have to feed, pay, or clean-up after them. They only have to give them love, take them for walks, or have them over to our backyard to play. They do readily clean-up when we go on walks. It is a great arrangement and we do not have to worry when we go on vacation.
"If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."
-- Thomas Jefferson to Col. Yancey, 1816

We have a little poodley dog. When we got her, she was a year old and all shaggy and cute. But poodles' fur is really, really difficult to maintain, and we had no idea how to brush her properly and get all the knots out. So when we took her to the groomer for the first time, they had to SHAVE her.

Hoo boy. The dog went from being Mopsy to being Fifi in one afternoon. The groomer even put little red bows on her ears, which made it worse. I tell you, I was embarrassed to be walking this poor nekkid dog. I felt sorry for the dog and I felt sorry for myself, too.

I don't know how those purebred poodle handlers can bear walking around with those dogs with classic poodle cuts. It's like Louis XIV in front, and NO PANTS in back.
