  • Pod hotels coming to the USA

Shouldn't take business from timesharing IMHO. Pod hotels have little pods with a bed and not much more- most are quite small and have no windows. They started in Japan and there are now some in the UK.

They sound dreadful. More like a punishment, than a vacation.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Interesting. Where are they expected to show up?

I'm not sure, but near airports would be a good guess.

There is one in NYC now called The Pod Hotel, but it nowhere near as small as those micro ones in Japan. These at least have room to walk around in. The micro ones in Japan look like berths on a train.

Near airports would be good. If someone has a long layover or their flight gets cancelled, then they can rent a pod. They can shower, take a nap, do internet, etc. Not a bad idea, really.

In Japan, the reason they have them is that lots of people have 3 hour commutes each way. If they are entertaining guests for business which is very common for Japanese style business, it is helpful for them to have a place to sleep in Tokyo. That saves them 6 hours of travel time on the trains.

I actually slept in one in Japan and it was a godsend.

I had a layover in Tokyo for 10 hours and if I had to pay a cab (2 ways as I did not want to chance the subway) and a hotel, it would've been been big yen/bucks and a chance at missing my plane.

The "pod" was immaculately clean, > submarine rack-like, low priced, safe and had a women's shower area. A little noisy, but it was right near the airport and a hotel could've been as noisy. I did sleep

I chose this as I was dead tired and did not want to sleep on the airport seats (you could not raise the arms of the chair, so you could not stretch out).

Here's a video of one (not mine). Mine was slightly bigger, but I paid an upcharge. This was many years ago.

I thought most pod hotels in Japan were men-only. The ones I've seen pictures of really didn't have any real doors on them, which would make me pretty nervous if there were men in the same area. Did this one have a women's sleeping area, or was it "co-ed"?
