We watched from our beach (30 miles south). It was the first shuttle launch our granddaughters (5&9 from NY) have ever seen.

Too true about being taken for granted. When I first moved here 15 years ago, you knew when it was about to happen, as cars pulled over left and right and people got out to look up. Now, that rarely happens and only a few cars..

Visitors to the area are still excited to witness a launch.

Some people see the space program as a huge waste of money. They forget about how many great things we enjoy because of that research.

We vacationed in Cocoa Beach for spring break this year. We saw the space station zip by two night in a row - VERY cool. We also saw an unmanned launch from the beach.

People are so sucked up in their own daily lives that not much else seems to penetrate. So sad.

We were in Orlando last week and drove to Titusville three times to watch the launch. On our first two trips (Sun and Mon), the launch was scrubbed because of foul weather in the area.

That's the first (and likely last) time my kids were able to see a shuttle launch. The second time I've seen one. I got to see a launch about 25 yrs ago, and it seems like I was able to get alot closer -- but, I'm not sure.

It was certainly a worthwhile, if unplanned, diversion from Disney.
