It's now 12 dead, and 31 injured. My son is stationed at Ft. Hood, so I pretty much had a heart attack when I first heard the news. I have heard from him, tho, and thank God, he is OK......I just feel so terrible for those soldiers, and their families. I'm wondering if like my son, they just recently returned from their tours in Afghanistan. Imagine just returning, and thinking that you were finally safe, and then something like this happens. Ugh, I feel sick.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Thank goodness your son is OK, Angela. I feel for the other parents and family. It is so tragic.

I know...Yes, I'm so relieved that my son was not injured, but I feel awful for the others. I can't stop crying. It's just so unfair.

Angela, very glad that your son is ok, it must have made you quite anxious when you first heard about it until you heard from him.

Yes, I was terrified. It took about 45 minutes to hear back from my son, after putting in my first phone call. Ft Hood was in lock-down, so getting info was nearly impossible, at first.

If true, I find it very disturbing that the shooter had been flagged 6 months ago, and he was getting ready to go overseas, without any intervention. Sigh.

Authorities aware of Hasan six months ago. The AP reports that Hasan came to the attention of authorities six months ago due to internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other attacks. It is not confirmed that Hasan was the author of these postings. One of the them can be read here:

NidalHasan scribbled: There was a grenade thrown amongs a group of American soldiers. One of the soldiers, feeling that it was to late for everyone to flee jumped on the grave with the intention of saving his comrades. Indeed he saved them. He inentionally took his life (suicide) for a noble cause i.e. saving the lives of his soldier. To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause. Scholars have paralled this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers. If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory. Their intention is not to die because of some despair. The same can be said for the Kamikazees in Japan. They died (via crashing their planes into ships) to kill the enemies for the homeland. You can call them crazy i you want but their act was not one of suicide that is despised by Islam. So the scholars main point is that "IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOUR INTENTION IS THE MAIN ISSUE" and Allah (SWT) knows best.
