  • Changing light bulbs and TS4MS

How many TS4MS members does it take to change a lightbulb?

    155.

One to change the lightbulb and to post to the BBS group that the lightbulb has been changed, 11 to share similar experiences of changing lightbulbs, 109 to post that this BBS is not about lightbulbs, 27 to post URLs where one can see examples of different lightbulbs, 3 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this BBS, and 4 to suggest that posters read the lightbulb FAQ.

    WRONG 156....

Some idiot will be along to say we don't let someone post about changing a lightbulb and that we censor such posts...

You forgot the members who will ask what company was used to exchange the old light bulb for a new light bulb.

Then 35 other people will post about the advantages of exchanging one light bulb for another light bulb, of if the value of each light bulb should be determined by the number of watts assigned to it.

Then there will be another long discussion of whether the wattages of light bulbs should be made public, or if its better for exchange companies to decide what type of light bulb you should be offered at the time you make the exchange.

Then someone will point out that if the exchanger converted to a dimmer switch, they could use only as many watts as they needed at any time.

Then there will be a number of people who will ask that separate boards be set up for discussions of incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs.

And then the flaming will start over whether the orange line of bulbs is better than all the rest.
Then some old fart will get mad and shoot out the bulbs.

And let's not forget the poll to see which bulbs we should order, with the argument getting so heated that the person in charge of ordering bulbs flees to the beach to avoid the controversy.

I didn't even realize there was controversy going on over the bulbs. I thought we were able to order whatever bulb we preferred.

I personally didn't care so much about the style of the bulb, although, I guess I did have a preference on the color.....

Cotroversy is guaranteed as soon as someone can't get the bulb they want from Sylavnia in an exchange, following which they see the exact same Sylvania bulb they wanted listed for sale offered to the general public at lightbulbs.com.

After that there will be longgggggg series of threads discussing the feasibility of giving up on exchanging bulbs and just buying them as needed.

                      ****

There will be some active discussions about whether it's better to get into an exchange program that has no expiration and can be passed on to your kids, or whether it's better to have a bulb exchange program that terminates after a set number (with all of your bulbs being returned when the program expires).

                      ******

Someone else will point out they just joined a fractional bulb program, where they get use of their bulb for three months out of every year.

                      ****

GE will announce that they've been listening to their customers (though no one can ever remember being asked by GE) and they're pleased to announce the formation of the GE bulb buyers club. Members of the club can trade their current bulbs for new bulbs using a published exchange value schedule. Membership in the club is automatic for new buyers, and existing GE bulb owners can join the club by buying a new GE bulb.

Other bulb owners will predict the demise of bulb exchanging because of the slavish adherence to a published, static bulb exchange schedule that can't possibly respond to the instantaneous dynamics of the bulb exchange marketplace.

After being challenged to provide specifics, one userwill mention that solar eclipses occur periodically, and that during solar eclipses the demand for liight bulbs increases. The rigid putblished exchange schedule, however, does not account for those changes, giving the same exchange values irrespective of the occurrence of solar eclipses. Another TUGger will point out that situation creates an advantage for light bulb users who know how to work the system, and sites such as TS4Ms exist to share exactly that type of information.

                      ****

Somewhere along the way, someone will put together an Excel spreadsheet calculating the net present value of different types of bulb ownership programs, and comparing the economic benefits of obtaining bulbs via exchange versus outright bulb ownership and use.

After the spreadsheet is posted and made available, two people with advanced degrees in eonomic analysis and four people who work with discounted cash flows professionally will start a 23 page thread debating the assumptions used in the model. The 856,526 others users of the site will collectively roll their eyes and yawn, then immediately move on to the next thread. The three site users who have actually read the Site FAQs will go to their Control Panel and unsubscribe from the thread.

                      ****

98% of the TS4Ms users will see my beautiful face avatar next to this post, scream "not another stupid, inane post by that #@%^&*#$ing T.R.Oglodyte", grab the nearest sharp object within hand reach and throw it at their monitor, and then go on to the next post. Of the three site users who have actually read the Site FAQs, one will go to their Control Panel and add me to their "Ignore" list. (The other two will have no idea what's going on, because they would have added me to their Ignore list long ago.).

and here I thought you'd all think this exchange was coincidental!

                            very cute Avery!

Oh, yeh, then those neo-cons will blame Clinton for letting the bulb burn out in the first place while those ex-hippie Dems will nail GWB for not responding intelligently.
