  • Julia Childs' kitchen at the Smithsonian

I haven't had a chance to do any of the Smithsonian museums/galleries in years. Just had a few hours this weekend, but the highlight for me was Julia Childs' kitchen on display at the Museum of American History - not sure how long it's been there, but it was donated in its entirety and is really a treat for Julia fans.

and my thoughts shot immediately to the Saturday Night Live Dan Akroyd skit where he impersonates her and gets totally looped on the cooking sherry. LOL

Unfortunately I couldn't find that on youtube

Yes! In fact that's really what's pictured in my mind's eye. I did love the Julie & Julia movie, though.

I will be in DC soon and was doing some reading on the museums. Found out that her kitchen has resided in the Museum of American History for about 10 years. Seeing the kitchen is one of my 'musts' for that museum and am glad to know you felt it so worthwhile for a Julia fan to see.

Here's the skit about saving the chicken liver, not the tipsy one, but still a funny skit.

Hulu - Saturday Night Live: The French Chef

Wait. Let that run and you get the Rock Against Yeast segment.

I also loved the display of all the inaugural ball gowns (dating back to Martha Washington!), conveniently located in the same building

Thanks -- that is on list too.
I am travelling with an Australian friend, so looked for 'highlights' in each of the museums that we would both like, plus asked for tours of the White House, Congress and State Dept. Should be jam packed fun for a few days.
