  • whudda thunk it - counterfeit rooster sauce!!!

If you enjoy spicy Asian food, you most likely are familiar with Sriracha sauce - aka "Rooster sauce" (because of the iconic rooster on the bottle).

Well lawdy, lawdy - apparently there's counterfeit Sriracha sauce out there:

Sriracha is what you use to add heat to almost any Asian dish - particularly with Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodia, Hunan.

It's great stuff!!! Sriracha is to Asian like Cholula is to Mex.

Nothing is sacred. I was amazed to hear that there are a lot of Australian counterfeit wines OS at the moment.

When bottle of wine auction for a upwards of $20,000 there's a lot of incentive to save a bottle and refill it:

There was a big counterfit on Brunello's a few years back and it involved 5 big wineries and one of the top vinters Antinori. Many vinters were not using 100% Sangevesse grapes.

Is it really counterfeit, in the exact same bottles and all? Because every time I go to buy rooster sauce, I do pick up a bottle and then notice that it's not the real deal. All the bottles look very similar, and there are a LOT of them. But if you've bought real rooster sauce before, it's easy enough to find the authentic brand if you look at the bottles.

The article I linked to has information on how to tell if it's the real deal.

Hmm...the article is from 2005. I'm wondering if this continues to be a problem.
