Didn't expect that the Chef's picks would include Cheesecake Factory and Chipotle! But I guess it makes sense -- they'd know better than anyone else what a challenge it is to provide consistently good food in a chain/in mass quantities.

Our experience with the Cheesecake Factory is that they vary from mediocre to excellent depending on the location. The worst one we ever ate at was in Kansas City. The food and service was mediocre at best and was quite expensive. The best one we have eaten at is in Redondo Beach ( Metro Los Angeles ). The food is excellent, service superb, reasonable prices and a fabulous location right next to the water. We eat there quite frequently.

Like all chain restaurants, the quality of each location is highly dependent on the restaurant management. They are not all the same including fast food chains though some are more consistent than others.

My wife and I used to own a Mexican restaurant in San Jose CA.
