Babbo's is a wonderful Italian restaurant in Greenwich village, NYC. I went there a few weeks ago with some friends, and we all enjoyed it tremendously.
It is owned and operated by renowned Chef Mario Batali. The food is quite authentic, and unusual. There were dishes on the menu that I have never before seen in an Italian restaurant. ( Normally only found at Grandma's house)........They offer a tasting menu, and although not cheap, ($64-$94 per person) it was wonderful. Their regular menu is more moderately priced! Everyone was very pleased with their food, and the service was top notch.
One of the best things about the restaurant was the wine list. They offer an extensive list of Italian wines, along with a 'Vino Italiano' buying guide. We drank some wines that we had never had before, and are now looking forward to getting them from our local wine store.
It is a pretty formal place, so, dress was a bit upscaled....However, no jackets req'd.
If you'd like to give it a try, you need to make reservations well in advance. Here is the link.....................
