If you ever have a party, and don't want to make a lot of different drinks, give it a try.

I have found it to be a crowd pleaser. And yes, I have also found some, under the table giggling.........

We only drink when we go to Hawaii. But I also drink with my two sisters, when we get together. My sisters and I love white russians and make them a wee bit too strong, probably.

Rick and I love a good mai tai and pina coladas are a newfound taste sensation that I crave the rest of the year, but I save that luxurious drink for vacation. My first mai tai was at a luau at Gaylord's on Kauai and I thought they were just okay, then four years later, we had free mai tais at Pahio @ Bali Hai as exchangers. We went over many nights to get a mai tai and walked back from the clubhouse. Better than driving. Those were strong mai tais.

I bought premixed mai tais at Costco on Maui, the Bacardi brand, and really enjoyed those. The drinks were absolutely delicious. I feel like buying a bottle of it and sticking it in the refrigerator here at home for the evenings. A little mai tai on occasion sounds okay. I had a sip of a daiquiri at a restaurant and thought it was good. I think I like rum.

Yo ho ho, let's talk rum for a minute!

I got to do a rum tasting in NYC last year. Yes, I went and sampled a new brand of rum. Well, I didn't even know what rum tasted like straight, so at nine in the morning I was opening up my bottle of Bacardi and taking a swig. Ugh! Straight Bacardi tastes like hell. So I dash into the city (on a bus, on a bus!) and I get to the tasting and they gave me a rum and Coke made with Bacardi (now I can tell what it is b/c I've just tasted it), and then...then...then...a rum and Coke made with this new rum. YUUUUMMM! So smooth, so sweet, so tasty. Mmmm mmm MMMm.

Okay, so the rum is called 10 Cane and it's made with sugar cane that is hand-massaged in Jamaica or something. It's on the market now and it's a stunning $28 per bottle at the cheap liquor store near me, while Bacardi is about $14. But it is delish! Bacardi is fine for my frozen daiquiris...but 10 Cane is really, really good. Just wanted to pass this info along for you rum fans out there. I feel like a stealth marketer.

Thanks for sharing....Cane Rum sounds great!

I have to be honest tho, what really struck me is that you took a bus into the city, just to taste some new rum........

That sounds great. I will have to look for that one and get those mai tai ingredients. Mom-in-law bought me a refrigerator magnet with a great mai tai recipe on it, while we were at the Kauai airport.

My husband was peeking over my shoulder when I typed my above post and told me I should also tell you that I got tanked at our last luau on Maui on July 18th. I was feeling so good that I could not get up and get food from the buffet, so he had to bring me food. I stopped drinking the mai tais and drank some water after that, then some coffee with my coconut cake, but I was feeling very tipsy on the way to the restroom and was walking very cautiously to not fall, all the while trying to keep from looking tipsy. I was hot, sitting at a front table, in the sun, at the Royal Lahaina luau and drank too quickly.

I didn't get a hangover at all, but I sure slept like a baby that night. Rick and I are considered prudes by our kids and just about everyone else, but on Hawaii, they should see the two of us! My mother-in-law is a person that really had a different opinion about us, until she saw that we WILL drink while in Hawaii.

Since Pina Coladas keep coming up I felt the need to share my recipe. I got this from Max's Kansas City in NYC back in the late 70s.

                  Pina Coladas

                  1 Cup Light Rum
                  1 Cup Pineapple Juice
                  1 Cup Cream of Cocoanut
                  Juice of 2 limes

Throw everything in the blender and fill with ice. WHRRRRRRRRRRR. SLURP!

There is probably only one place that serves better Pina Coladas and that is in St Maarten. I can't remember the name of the restaurant but it is on the harbor on the far side of Phillipsburg. They would not share the recipe...

Now I can't wait to get to South Beach to make some...

                    Lawren,

Your recipe sounds great. I really like Pina Coladas, too. That's all my DH and I drank when we were in Aruba.

Maybe we should start a new thread for 'Alcoholic Recipes.' This way, people can find them, if they are having company, or just feel like trying something new. We can start the thread with this recipe, and my Sangria recipe. What do you think?

                      Sounds like a good idea.

We can put it in with the food...speaking of which I'm still trying to get over the pumpkin video before I post my pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread recipes.

                        Lawren,

Just watch the Chad Vader video and it will make you forget about anything else, including any guilt for slaughtering your pumpkins!

I would definitely wait a few days before posting them. Somehow, I don't think they would be appreciated, at the moment.

I can tell you that I will be hearing screams in my head, as I carve my pumpkin for Halloween. I may have to have my DH do it this year.......

I will get a thread started.

Imagine what the response would have been if the thread title had included sex. Something like "What is your favorite alcoholic beverage to promote sex?"
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

                                “You shouldn't wear that body.”
