  • Party Punch recipe request

My Red Hat group will be at my house in a month for our 2nd annual Christmas party and I would like to have a nice, non-alcoholic punch available. Any recipes appreciated. It is a potluck, so we will be fried chicken and all the usual side dishes. And if any of you know any games..mostly sit down/writing type, that would be fun, I would like some input on those too. TIA

    Try this simple punch:

Equal parts of white grape juice and gingerale. You can make a ice ring out of this with cherries in the ring. It's very light, refreshing and looks great.

      Jo Ann,

Have you considered an Apple cider Punch, or an Egg Nog Punch. Both are very appropriate for the Holiday Season.

      Spicy Autumn Punch

"The aroma of this punch tells you that the Holidays are in the air. Make a batch, and your home will have a fragrance that will alert anyone's sense of smell."

Original recipe yield: 16 (4 ounce) servings

      PREP TIME 20 Min
      COOK TIME 40 Min
      READY IN 1 Hr
      US METRIC

      CHRISTMAS PUNCH

1 qt. peppermint ice cream, softened
      2 qt. egg nog
      2 qt. gingerale

Place ice cream in punch bowl. Pour egg nog and ginger ale over ice cream. Serve immediately. Peppermint candy canes maybe hooked over side of cup. Yield: 20 servings.

      EGG NOG PUNCH

      4 eggs
      1/3 c. sugar
      1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. rum or brandy (Optional)
      1 liter 7-Up, chilled
4 c. chilled evaporated milk (or half and half plus 1 can evaporated milk = 4 c.), chilled
      2 qts. ice cream

Beat eggs, sugar and nutmeg until light and lemon color. Gradually add evaporated milk or half and half and rum or brandy. Mix in 2 quarts vanilla ice cream. Just before serving slowly add 1 liter 7-Up. Best when made just prior to serving. Great for holiday.

Last year I dumped apple cider into the crockpot with mulling spices (found in the grocery store - came in tea bags). It was a major hit, had to send hubby to the grocery store for more.

on the traditional/cheap n easy side, frozen sorbet (lime, orange, whatever) with 7 Up poured on it.

Games, well, if you consider cards, I can let you in on a family game that can be played with any number of people, is easy to learn, and is a lot of fun.

          And for Games

I like to do "Two truths and a lie." It will help your group to get to know each other better, and if they have vivid imaginations it is lots of fun.

I also like to give people dinner partners. I do this by having tags ready when they enter. Each person pulls one, and I affix it to their back. They don't get to see it. They are part of a famous duo, and they have to find out two things by asking questions. The first is who they are (and they can't ask "who am I" they have to do it indirectly), and once they know who they are they have to look at other people's backs and find their partner. So you could have Lucy and Desi, Adam and Eve, Antony and Cleopatra, Martin and Lewis, Sonny and Cher, etc. If you don't want to play Two truths and a lie, then with this in place have each person find out an unusual fact about their partner and then "introduce" it to everybody around the table.
