Liver mush and Cheerwine

I was watching the Travel in America on foods and two were highlighted from North Carolina: Liver mush and Cheerwine.

You Carolinians, are these popular foods in NC? What say you?

Grits, maybe, but what about cheese grits? They are good........I'm a southern transplant from Ohio (how embarrassing) and Nebraska!

My DH is from North Carolina and he can't wait to get home for some livermush. It is terrible, but his entire family eats it. I mean even the picky eaters. We were there over the holidays and his first stop was at the meat market to buy livermush.

He and the family also drink Cheerwine. I don't think it's as good as Dr. Pepper, but it's ok.

Now, bbq, we can agree on and all sit down to the table together!!!!!!!!

How do you MAKE liver mush? Inquiring minds want to know (I think).

According to the program I was watching, Taste America, livermush is a manufactured product that uses livers and other pork by-products and mixes these with I think corn meal and other stuff. This slurry is put into molds and cooled into large loafs that are then cut into saleable sizes.

It is packaged and sold in NC stores. You slice it and basically use it like sauage, breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I'm not sure I have ever heard anyone from South Carolina speak of livermush. It's those NC yankees that eat the stuff! And, yes, the DH has a recipe for it. His grandmother used to make it for them.
