Oh gross.......Of course I always ask for either lemon, or lime in my drinks. I will surely miss them, but won't be asking, any more.

    Thanks for the info.

        Yuck .

I've been asking for lemon for my water or hot water for years. In fact, I was just at a restaurant on Sunday and asked for hot water with lemon .

I suppose I can bring my own from home now...

I am not giving up lemons, though I may have to start squeezing them into my water rather than dropping them in. Of course if they tested other things they could be just be just as bad, but I guess the citrus rinds are less likely to be washed. Hopefully that will change as a result of the health inspection info, and we can go back to being happy lemon users

This is the reason that I love large pocketbooks......You're always prepared.

I can see it now, going out for drinks with my friends, and out comes my zip-lock bag of lemon, and lime wedges. Yeah, that's gonna go over well.

Thank you so much for posting this. I can now refer a couple of friends to watch this that I have been taking a ribbing from for years! I will absolutely not take lemon in my water or any drink because I have suspected such as this also another reason was I was concerned that they didn't wash the lemons and I didn't want pesticides floating around in my drink.

                Yuck!!!!

Well, I just keep telling myself that lemon wedges haven't killed me yet....I probably have some sort of immunity built up by now. Still, makes me want to run a handy wipe over them before dropping into my drink. Gross.

                  EWWWW

I just plain don't LIKE lemon in my water and it !&#^@* me off when they put it there! If I didn't order it, why did I get it? They don't give me any steaks or shrimp or anything else I didn't order. Now I have an even better reason to not want the lemon. I will now be specific in stating "NO lemon"!

                  Thanks Frank.

Since I like a slice of lemon in my water, I didn't open the link for whatever gross thing it showed.

If restaurant lemons are gross, I must be immune.

While this may sound extremely gross, it's not something I'm going to get overly excited about and this "researcher" probably shouldn't have either. "Disease causing bacteria" are in and on everything you touch, drink or eat. "Fecal bacteria" are on nearly everything you put into your mouth.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying go out into the back yard and use dog stuff for dinner. Just that with or without the restaurant setting you're going to get a good amount of bacteria on any lemon slice you put into your mouth. How many of you use tongs to handle lemons that you put into your water at home? For that matter do any of you use tongs to handle your food or food products? I'm a nurse and I was my hands constantly yet, they are never germ free. I definately don't use tongs to handle food products at home. What that means is there is always going to be some transfer of germs from my hands to the food. Think about that next time you go over to someone elses house for dinner.

We can not, nor should we attempt, to live in a germ free environment. If you avoid all germs you're going to lose some of your natuaral defenses to ordinary germs that shouldn't make you sick.

Now, who would find this information most important? Those who are immunosurpressed. Elderly, very young children and those with diseases or treatments for diseases that affect your immune system.

Other thoughts to keep in mind. Did that server just put their thumb on the eating surface of your plate? Was you table cleaned with a resuable rag instead of a disposable rag (Run THAT rag through the microbiology department.....GROSS)? Has the server at any time put their fingers around (or inside) the drinking surface of your glass and has your server been handling money and then handling anything you'll eat off of, drink out of or use to eat your food with?

Unlike the standard of care for cleaing hotel room glasses this really isn't to much to get worked up about IMO. After all, the Myth Busters did a thing on toothbrushes and bathrooms. Even the toothbrush they put in a sealed glass container in the kitchen had fecal matter on it and it was a brand new toothbrush.

All this amounts to is a slow news day and something sensational to put on the airwaves.

Oh, and if you think this news segment was gross, then you should never ever eat at a barffet.....uh, I mean buffet.

Hey, it is February and sweeps month. Looks to me this is just someone trying to hop on the "hotel drinking glasses" bandwagon with some sensational "reporting" (if you can call it that...).

Thanks for the informative post! Kind of gross when you think about what creepy crawlies are out there, but I figure what doesn't kill me makes me stronger. I kind of feel sorry for those who will change from doing something they enjoy (having a slice of lemon w/ their drink) just because of this "report".
