  • Question about Recipes....?

As a question... I know I have been accused of being anxious to put things into a database format, but I am pretty sure I have a recipes script at home that I used to have running on another of my websites.... Would people be interested in having a searchable recipes database here on the server?

Obviously this is not timeshare related but everybody likes a new recipie now and then... If I already have the script I can drop it on the server pretty darned quick and I will not bother trying to integrate it with the member database per say... more of an included page like I did with the CHAT or the RCI trade test we did....

Obviusly i ave more pressing tasks I am trying to get done but I am looking for some simpler database projects to help me improve my own skill plus I like to eat and some of the recipes that have been posted I have been printing whith the hope that my wonderful wife will be willing to make some... yea I know I could make it for her as a surprise too huh....

Let me know your oppinions as even if we don't want it specifically on the forums we own several other domains that are associated with this project and we could put them to work for us as well... (SAY TS4MER.com as an example). Note I was using http://www.TS4MER.com as a development board to get the photoserver running but obviously I have it here now so the domain is available for use...

It might be a good thing. We could then transfer recipes to the database and prune them from the forums after a month.

I have been swamped with work and then managed to get sick but I finally dug up the script. Right now it is a stand alone (Members Need to Join - Please use your member name from the forums)

The password in the recipies program is encripted so there is no worry that anyone can get your TS4MS password from the recipies area. I had hopes to integrate this into the TS4MS member database to provide permissions based on usergroups but that is going to be a significant modification that I would be wise to put off until more of our other projects get finished.

So anyways, here is the Recipe Book!

            http://www.timeshareforums.com/recipies

Here is some of the basic components of this recipe book:

            http://www.timeshareforums.com/recip...mentation.html

Just let me know if this script looks too complicated as I think I have another script that I could install and try before people start entering a lot of recipies into this... Obviously, I didn't program that script!

              Frustrating!!!

Ken, I have tried 3 times to enter an original bread recipe. You are restricted to only the ingredients in the pull-down menu. Also, you may not enter any ingredient more than once. It just so happens that this one uses BOTH white flour and whole wheat flour. It was hard enough adding whole wheat, as there's no entry for it, but then it refused the recipe because I had used flour twice.

This is the very first entry try, and it just won't do what it needs to. Oh, BTW, every time it refuses your recipe, it deletes most everything so that you have to try again. AAAARRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, I tried to enter a recipie and this format sucks! Don't use that and I will get a better one up...

This code was supposed to help you come up with shopping lists, costs, and even help you find the items in the store... it would work when populated but I would never want to spend the time to populate it...

I have another that I will try to get up this weekened and we will see if that is better!

Thanks for understanding, Ken. You're right - it sux regally!

Let me know when you have the next one up and running, and I'll be the guinea pig.

OK, a much simpler version is up...

                    http://www.timeshareforums.com/recipies

I deleted the old code and the old database and started fresh... The recipies in there came from the person(s) that wrote the script... Let me know what you think of this and if it needs any changes... there are others out there as well but I was looking for something small and free... This is both!

                      MUCH Better!!

OK, Ken. I tried it out, and this program is a LOT easier to work with.

I've added one of my original recipes for those of you who have bread machines and are tired of paying $3+ for a loaf of healthy, whole grain bread. It's my gift to my TSF friends, and my effort to improve their nutrition. This one uses a combination of whole wheat and oats, and is absolutely heavenly. It's nirvana when toasted and spread with butter or cream cheese, but if you're watching fat intake, it's delicious all by itself, with no adornment.

I buy the two-pound yeast bags at Sam's or BJ's and store them in the freezer. It lasts forever this way, and is incredibly cheap compared to buying those 3 packet strips.

I recommend King Arthur whole wheat flour, because it has a nice, fine texture that enhances your final product. But any whole wheat will do. One bag will make probably 20 loaves. Costs around $2 a 5 pound bag. You can buy the store brand of rolled oats if you don't have any, or Quaker rolled oats, if you're feeling flush. One of those canisters will make a gazillion loaves. You can use the quick-cooking oats (don't use instant) if that's all you have. Rolled oats give a nuttier flavor, however, and better texture.

Also uses honey, but if you don't have any, you can use molasses, or dark corn syrup. In a REAL pinch, you could even use pancake syrup, instead. The raisins are optional, of course, but they add a lot to the taste.

All the rest of the ingredients are things you're likely to already have on hand. All-in-all, you can make a super, protein, fiber, and vitamin-B-packed bread that is more delicious than anything you can buy in stores, for a fraction of what it costs to buy a preservative-laden, mass-produced thing at the grocery store. When it's baking, the smell will make you think you died and went to heaven! And you get to smell it all over again when you toast a slice.

Makes a lovely gift to take to a housewarming or when invited to dinner at a friend's house. Easy to make and lovely to eat.

Ok Cat, Sara's got the bread machine out and we have all the ingredients, but I can't find the recipe. Looks like all the breads have the same "old" entered date. Is it one of the 10 listed, not entered or is something wrong with the database ?

                          Bummer!!!!!

Hmmmmmmmmm, Tony. When I submitted, I got a message indicating it would "post soon" (whatever that means. Ken??) I just checked, using my log-in, and it said "Recipes waiting approval". So sounds like Ken has to manually OK it. Wonder if there's any way for him to set it to just post automatically...

If it fails to post by this evening, or if you need is ASAP, I'll write it to you via email. Actually, I just sent it to you via PM. Let me know how you like it.

Thanks, Cat. Maybe Ken is worried that I'll post my boiled pizza recipe.

I don't like that!!! I do have to go in and approve recipies

I promoted the recipie Cat submitted and it is here:

                              http://www.timeshareforums.com/recip...p?recipeid=108

I am trying to turn off that approve requirement...
