  • Celtics & Lakers

I'm getting very nervous. Both teams are outstanding, but we're not the Celts from 2 years ago.

The Lakers are playing some very, very, very good (great) ball.

I loved the 80's matchups the best. Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, M.L. Carr and somebody else lived in my town back then. I stood behind Parish in the grocery store and my neck came up to his waist.

D.J./Dennis Johnson was my all time favorite ! He died much too early.

It's not the same in the new Garden. As long as they don't touch Fenway Park, I'll be fine.

    Still, GO CELTICS !!

I'm feeling pretty confident about the Laker's chances of winning this series. We are much tougher with Andrew Bynum playing center and Ron Artest shutting down Paul Pierce. And, Pau Gasol is much more experienced now. Kobe is Kobe and will probably finish with 6 or 7 championships.

Last night's game should have been Boston's. The Laker's played horrible offense in the second half although their defense was great. Gotta credit Boston's defense as well. It took a big game from Derek Fisher to close it out as Kobe had an off half.

I think the Celtics miss Eddie House, Leon Powe and James Posey. Rasheed Wallace hasn't brought much and the big 3 are showing signs of age. If it weren't for Rajon Rondo and a freak performance by Ray Allen, the Laker's would be up 3-0. I think the Lakers win one of the next two in Boston and close it out in game 6 in the Staple's Center.

The Celtic's only realistic chance is to win the next two games in Boston and steal game 6. I doubt that the Laker's will lose game 7 at home.

I hated the Larry Bird Celtics. I was too young to remember much about the Celtics v Lakers rivalry in the 60's, but this formed the basis for my long term hatred of the Celtics. Magic Johnson broke the streak in 1985 and we finally beat the Celtics in the finals.

Larry Bird was the best player I have ever seen play when he won his 3 straight MVPs. Fortunately, Magic Johnson took over that role after winning back to back championships in '87 and '88.

Danny Ainge was my most hated Celtic. He was the biggest cry baby of all time. I also hated Kevin McHale especially after the famous clothes line play on Kurt Rambis.

However, time has softened my hatred. Now, it has mostly turned to respect. The starting 5 Celtics were the best starting 5 players I have ever seen. Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, Larry Bird, Danny Ainge and Dennis Johnson were unstoppable. They would have won more championships is they didn't lose Len Bias to a cocaine overdose.

I think the Lakers would have to be heavily favored now, because:

1)when the Celtics head west for game 6, apparently Paul "We ain't comin' back to LA" Pierce won't be joining the rest of the team........

        or perhaps

2)he was just predicting the Lakers will close out the series in Boston.

I respected Kareem, Nixon, Rambus, Magic. Like the Celts, they came to play.

I never quite warmed up to Ainge, either. I saw him at a salad bar a week before his heart attack.

Forgot to say how much I loved Bill Walton.

I am an old Celtics fan, before that was a Walton or Hale at center there was #6 the greatest defensive center in the history of the NBA. Bill Russell was his name.

            R. Rondo is honoring Bill Russel by wearing #9 in reverse of Russell old jersey #9.

I would love to see my Celtics win this series. But the young running legs of the Lakers can run this Celtics Team crazy.

However, this series I believe will go six games.

I loved the style that the bench played. I've always been a Celtics fan and believe in the working man type of play. That is what we got yesterday. Hopefully it will continue. Win or lose when they play with that much effort makes for a great game.

I loved it too...and really enjoy this rivalry, though I am firmly on the side of the Celtics.

As much as it pains me to say it, the Celts are definitely out playing the Lakers up to this point. Although I do feel as though Bynum's limited mobility has been a detriment to the Lakers on both ends of the court, I think Boston's "D" has been the big difference.

That was before the Lakers blew the Celitcs out last night. The Laker's D was awesome. Actually the series has gone pretty well as I expected. Each team won a game in the other's house so the Lakers lost home court advantage in game 2 but got it back in game 3. I think game 7 will be closer than last night but the Lakers will prevail.

                            Go Lakers!!!

The series has been pretty much even over 6 games. The primary reason I wanted Boston to come out of the East is so that any game 7 would be played in Los Angeles instead of Boston. That should be helpful to the Lakers.

If the Lakers can come out with the same intensity they did last night, then Kobe will have his 5th ring tying him with Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the Lakers with the most championships.

I give the Lakers a 70% chance of winning. The Lakers are 10-1 in the last 11 close out games. Boston is 1-10 in their last 11 close out games away from home.

I think the keys will be energy, the benches, rebounding and defense. Whoever wins the above wins the game and the championship.

I expect Boston to be double teaming Kobe all night. So, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom or Derek Fisher need to have the game of their lives to win the championship.
