  • The Streak- when will it end ?

Now at 84 consecutive wins, Uconn holds the womens' record and are closing toward the 88 set by John Wooden's UCLA mens' team. Most likely ending chances are 87 at 12/19/2010 in NY against # 6 Ohio State. If they win that one (#88) the next game is against # 15 Florida State on 12/21/2010 and if they win that they set a new record of 89. The next major test should be 12/30/2010 against # 3 Stanford (who was the last team to beat them in the 2008 Final Four). Uconn has already beaten #2 Baylor in a very close game. Uconn lost 3 starters(one an all-American) and now starts 2 freshmen in games- but then they still have Maya Moore(who usually does something amazing in every game).

But they are UConn, they come big with their legacy and their other secret weapon - Geno )
Watching with interest. (And Stanford lost some of their better players too...if we could get past Baylor, even in a sqeaker, we will for Stanford. Keeping the faith.)

Now also another record set of 48 consecutive weeks as the # 1 ranked team in the country.

        88 strong

The Uconn women won their 88th consecutive game against # 10 Ohio State 81-50, tying the record set by UCLA's men in 1971. Next game is Tuesday (Dec.21) against another ranked team Florida State.

          Hey Tony--
I was there -- how could I resist when you could get a decent seat for $15?
I don't care about the streak, per se, just was happy to have the opportunity to see CT. play
Nice to see Geno with his head in his hands, acting like the world was comin to an end when his girls made a bad play -- and they were 20 points up... kind of funny.
Really enjoyed watching them - even though it was a rout -.

The classic set a record for attendance for women's BB, over 15,000.

That is good- the guy's football tickets for the Fiesta bowl go starting at $ 155.
The Florida State game tomorrow is at Hartford's XL center and the game is only on ESPNU, so tickets will be hard, if not impossible to get even tho the XL holds somewhere over 12,500 people(and may take up to 18,000 ?).

I wore my Huskies sweatshirt with pride once again ...

Found it interesting that the girls got commemorative T-shirts after the game that congratulated them on 89 wins! I guess no one thought that printing them might be a 'jinx'.

Please don't compare women's basketball records with men. It is a great accomplishment for the uconn woman's program. However, keep it at that. It is much harder to accomplish such a streak in men's basketball because the depth of talent across the nation is much better. They are not nearly as many outstanding women basketball players as there are men in the men's programs. That is why you see such outlandish victories in the woman's programs. Kudos to the uconn women because they hold the NCAA streak for women but UCLA still holds the NCAA streak for men.

                        90

                        Uconn 85 Pacific 42.

Next game Thursday at Stanford which has a home winning streak of it's own on the line. Uconn's last loss was to Stanford in the 2008 final four. If Uconn wins, the next game is against Villanova, the team that ended their prior record streak of 70 consecutive wins.

                          90

It's over. Villanova is not happy-they are the next team UConn plays and UConn has not lost 2 games in a row since the 1992-93 season. Expect to see them again in the final four. Streaks of 70 and 90, if things run in 3's- what's next ?

I agree with you 100%. UCONN's winning streak. though admirable, only applies to women's basketball. To compare it with the UCLA's men's streak is absurd as they are comparing apples to oranges.

100 % Chauvanists. Even John Wooden said that womens' basketball was a more pure form of basketball. You just can't accept women being better at anything but slave labor.
