  • UCONN Men will be unheard of for a couple of years.

Currently suspended from NCAA basketball tournament competition for scholastic reasons, and today Jim Calhoun retired. New head coach will be Kevin Ollie (former Uconn guard and later coach). Uconn had a player transfer and 2 others go for the NBA draft after the appeal on the suspension failed. The next 2 years should be a bit sparse in the win column, but with some luck, good recruiting and better grades the program may be back to nation prominence in time.

Surprise, Surprise - The UCONN men opened it's season with an upset win over # 14 ranked Michigan State in the Armed Forces Classic.

On the women's side the # 2 ranked Huskies opened their season with a 103-39 drubbing of the College of Charleston- starting one freshman and showcasing 2 others of their top rated recruiting class. All the games will be broadcast with SNY network doing most of them (replacing public television). I expect them to be in the final four for the sixth straight year with an eventual matchup with top ranked Baylor.

Four players gone and a new coach with not much height and they still finished the year 20-10. No post season permitted by NCAA tho.
