Some thoughts on the Draft and Keepers:

      First on the Keepers:

I think the Keeper Rule should remain as is.

      The reason being:

The one position that is weak in the NFL is the running backs position. Teams that have a “3 down, Full Time, Short Yardage” running back can be counted on one hand.

The next position is WR. Few teams have a dominating number one WR.

I think it is only fair to the teams that don’t have a keeper on their roster to have a chance to pick up an elite player on their roster during the draft.

      On the Draft:

The mix up on the draft was my fault for not removing one of the running backs from Sal’s roster as soon as I knew about the mistake. I also assumed that if corrected before the draft, the CBS website would handle it correctly. It didn’t do so. In fact, it caused more problems by adding Lynch to the draft about 45 minutes after the draft started.

The reason I didn’t want to drop Lynch from Sal’s Roster was the first owner picking in the draft was my son, Doug. I asked Sal several time to drop one of 2 running backs after the August 22 Keeper deadline. He didn’t do so. And I had Mike do so about 20 minutes before the draft.

Next year, I will make sure this doesn’t happen again by removing the lower rank 2nd player right after the deadline is passed.

I also will try to find out why the CBS software didn’t pick up the Keepers on the Rosters and put an automatic Skip on those teams. Mike D had to Skip each team that had Keepers in the first and second rounds as their came up.

I would like to thank both Mike and Doug for helping out in the Draft. Without them helping out we might still be drafting.

                Lawren Wrote,

Guys Jimmy wanted Lynch with the 9th pick in round 2. So he drafts Winn with the agreement that he will get Lynch later. I got Lynch with the 8th pick in the 5th round because of the snafu. He would have never lasted that long anyway but that is not the point. I wasn't there but because of previous agreements I get Winn instead of a 5th round pick. TOTALLY NOT FAIR. Everyone knew he wasn't going to make the cut. There is no way to fix this but I think it would be fair to give me a choice of free agents RIGHT NOW before waivers open. Here are my choices The only RB worth taking a shot on right now is Jeremy Hill on Cincy. Receivers would be Cecil Shorts (Jax), Steve Smith (BAL), Greg Jenning (MIN), Malcom Floyd (SD) or Thompkins (NE).

                Lawren

                -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I moved EX-OPS up to the top of the Waiver List order. This should make it as fair as possible at this time. Sorry Lawren, It was the only choice we had at the time of the Draft. Lawren, you will need to drop Winn and add the player you want before Midnight tonight.

Walt can Lawren have the 1st waiver spot until the first week of play is over. That way Lawren would have a chance at any FA player now or if there is a breakout player over the 1 st week of play.

Lawren should drop Winn and replace him with the first pick of this weeks Waiver List. This just replaces Winn. I will put her on the 1st spot for next week's Waiver list too. This may make up for her lost of her 5th round pick.

                              • I went to the Packers/Jets game yesterday with my son and his 2 sons. The ages of his sons are 8 and 11. I drove from my house in Brookfield to Oconomowoc which is about 20 miles away at 8:00 am. My son, his sons and I drove to Madison for his son's Soccer game which started at 11:00 am. Total mileage so far about 80 miles. We left Madison after the soccer game at about 12:30 pm for Green Bay. Madison to Green Bay 140 miles. Total mileage so far 220 miles.

At 10:38 left in the 2nd quarter it's 21 to 3 Jets and I'm having some very, very negative thoughts about the Packers' lack of play. Because of Doug's son, Eli, soccer game we arrived late and missed the Jet's first TD. I said to Doug that the Packers arrived late too.

I've been to many Packers game during my 74 years and like most Packers fans, we never give up on them. However, I also knew that we would need help from the Jets if we were to come back. Thanks Jets for your help. At the 1:52 left in the 2nd Quarter I first saw a wide open receiver and then a pop up football landing in the hands of our DB, T. Williams, after Geno Smith was hit by the Packers as he was throwing the ball. Score at that time was 21 to 9. Packers have the ball at their own 3 yard line. Packers moved the ball to the Jets' 45 and because the Jets hit Rodgers late, we have the ball at the 30 yard line with 32 seconds left. After 2 plays that got nothing, it's 3rd and 10 at the 30 yard line with 24 seconds left. Rodgers finds Davante Adams on a slant pass and Packers have the ball at the 6 yard line with 15 seconds left. With 8 seconds left Rodgers hits Cobb for the TD and all of the sudden it's 21 to 16 Jets. Thanks again Jets for allowing the Packers back into the game.

80 yard TD pass from Rodgers to Nelson. 2 point extra point pass. Jets field goal. Time out by Jets before they throw a TD pass. Packers 31, Jets 24. Thanks Jets. Thanks Rodgers, for the win and the 32.3 FF points.

Distance from Green Bay to Oconomowoc, 125 miles. 20 more miles to Brookfield. Total mileage 365 miles, arrival time at home in Brookfield, 9:45 pm.

Long day, lots of miles. But a win makes it all worth while.

At half time, they had all of the Packers' Hall of Fame, players back. It was great to see players from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and the 2000s back. Thinking back about the many games I saw, I thought to myself, " How lucky I was to see these teams and how many football fans can say they saw 4 great Quarterbacks the likes of Bart Starr, Lynn Dickey, Bret Favre, and Aaron Rodgers.

Thanks Jets for a perfect day. Family, Good game, lots of good food and beer, Hall of Fame Packers, and a Packers win. Does it get any better than this?
