  • Giants are ahead by ½ game in the National League West.

    SAN FRANCISCO, July 22 (UPI) -- Eliezer Alfonzo had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored Saturday night, as the San Francisco Giants beat the Padres, 4-3.

    Omar Vizquel and Moises Alou had two hits each for the Giants, who won their fifth straight to go ahead of the Padres by ½ game in the National League West.

    Jason Schmidt (7-6) gave up three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and five walks. Armando Benitez got his 13th save.

    Mike Cameron homered and Adrian Gonzalez had three hits for the Padres, who lost their fourth straight.

    San Diego starter Woody Williams (4-2) gave up four runs on 10 hits with one walk and one strikeout over seven innings.

      Just got back from the baseball game, San Diego is back in first place by a ½ game,
      That did not take long,. Wining 3 games out of 4 isn’t bad though.
      What I once considered boring, I now consider paradise.

          I'm usually with you with the Dodgers losing but tonite if they win, the Giants will again be in (actually share) 1st place which would be a good thing.

            Did you notice, that Monday both the AL & the NL west standing were exactly the same. The first, second the thrid place teams all had exactly the same records. The AL 4th place team had the same wins as the 4th place NL team and same loses as the 5th place team.

              I think Bill has identified a major league baseball conspiracy to keep fan interest in the wildcard race for as long as possible.

                That conspiracy theory holds for the NL but not the AL.....the AL West is out of the WC race.
