    Go Angels Go

Hey beags......I will be watching too.....Go Angels.

Wish you guys had done better against Oakland .......you have done very well against the Angels at Fenway over the last several years ....it is time to break that pattern.

I would say good luck but I would be lying.

Hey 2 out of 3 in Fenway ain't bad at all.....wish we could have pulled out the broom.

Way to go KC on the sweep.

Don't worry beags....we hope to return the favor....one down against the stinkin yanks.....three to go.

Did you know the Angels have the best records in the majors vs. the yanks in yankee stadium in the Joe Torre era? We are one of only two teams with winning records vs. yankees since 1996.

          Red,
Very impressive stats. For a west coast team, I have to say that I've always liked the Angels.
Our bats have gone cold and now we have injuries. One thing I can say about the Evil Empire is that even with some major players injured, they managed to win games.
          Should be an interesting race.

I am surprised that Bill4728 didn't chime in here......Seattle is the other team.

One more against the Big Eunuch .....go Angels.

Heck of a week for Lowell (the former Yankee )......wow.

It's gonna be an exciting end of August and September the way things are going in several divisions.....

Remember Beags....I have tickets for your BoSox games...they are coming to town after you guys battle the Tigers and the yanks. Let me know.

                Hey Red,
Wow, some action last night ! I can't blame the AAs for getting fed up with those pitches. Now, what about the next 7 times that both teams are scheduled to play each other this season ?
Thanks for the very generous offer of tickets in LA, however, I have to stay as close to home as possible due to family matters. I'm supposed to go to Ireland on 9/16 for the Ryder Cup. That remains to be seen.

                  Hey Beags,

Yeah it is going to get more interesting with Texas...there was already some bad blood there from a past years fight between Adam Kenedy and Laird.

Vlade had a really long hitting streak against Texas and basically owned them....so the series before last they intentionally walked him and threw at him until the last at bat so the streak ended.

This last brawl was an extension of that series where the Texas pitchers continued to throw at Vlade, Rivera, and others.....Mike Scioscia will put up with a lot and does not believe in bean ball (cite the entire Jose Guillen episodes years past) but there comes a point when enough is enough.

I am pretty dissapointed in Buck Showalter the TX manager....the guy has really shown his true colors and has no class at all.

Notes: Scioscia has talk with Showalter
                  08/16/2006 8:50 PM ET
By Ken Daley / Special to MLB.com

ARLINGTON -- Angels manager Mike Scioscia spoke by phone Wednesday with Texas manager Buck Showalter, seeking an explanation for the recent rash of Rangers pitchers throwing at Angels hitters before the teams took the field for the finale of their two-game series at Ameriquest Field.
Whether Scioscia was satisfied by the conversation was unclear.

"I'm not going to comment on what was said," the Angels manager said firmly.

What was apparent was that Scioscia still was displeased with the events of Tuesday night, when Rangers starter Vicente Padilla hit Angels outfielders Vladimir Guerrero and Juan Rivera with fastballs, and Guerrero had to duck away from two other pitches near his head.

Scioscia said he had not spoken with anyone from Major League Baseball's disciplinary office Wednesday, but said confidently, "I'm sure suspensions are going to be in order."

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he had spoken with the league office and acknowledged that suspensions of Padilla and Showalter were likely.

"I was disappointed with how things unfolded," Daniels said. "We've got a lot on the line. Our guys have put themselves in position to contend, and for something to get in the way of that is disappointing."

This wasn't the first incident of Texas pitchers throwing at Los Angeles hitters this month. On Aug. 6, Texas starter Adam Eaton was ejected from a game in Anaheim for throwing a pitch behind Rivera right after giving up a three-run homer to Garret Anderson. That incident, coupled with Tuesday's, left some Angels position players privately wondering when their pitchers would respond.

"You've got to do things for the respect of your teammates above everything else," said right-hander John Lackey. "Vlad is our best player. He's one of the best players on the planet. We're going to protect him, definitely. We can't afford to lose any offense, especially our biggest part."

But with the American League West race tight, the timing of a response must make sense, too.

"It's hard, because we're trying to chase the team in front of us [Oakland]," Lackey said. "We can't afford to lose any guys [to suspensions], or to lose any games. ... There'll be a time and a place."

Scioscia, however, was adamant that "retaliation with beanballs is not part of our package."

"There are other ways to express things," Scioscia said. "Juan Rivera going hard into second base sends the message that we're not happy with what's been happening. But our resolve is firm that we're not about beanballs."

Angels pitching coach Bud Black agreed, saying, "Our philosophy is not one of retaliation. We don't condone that. On the other hand, our pitchers know we want them to pitch inside aggressively and with conviction. Our [position] players know that as well."

No excuses: Showalter appeared to back off a little from his Tuesday night claim that Padilla was simply trying to work the inner half of the plate against Guerrero, who entered Wednesday with an .818 career slugging percentage against the Rangers.

"Obviously, everybody from the Angels to the Yankees has to pitch inside. That's part of [Padilla's] success," Showalter said. "But, sometimes, you can go over the edge. I'm not making any excuses. If I was Mike or the Angels, I wouldn't be happy either."

                    Red,
I'm actually in agreement with you here. Anyone who pitches AT a batter intentionally should be banned for some of the season. Yes, accidental pitches do happen and you can spot those, but these............. yikes. I remember being 15 and seeing our beloved Tony C get accidentally beaned. Can just imagine what an intentional drilling at the head would result in.

Well, the Angels must be looking forward to their weekend. The M's have just been terrible the last week. They got shut out again last night. Ichiro hasn't had a clutch base hit in August.

Bill, sorry but I hope they keep it up....we need to wins to keep pace with Oakland...they are on a tear. .500 on our last road trip did not do the job....was actually hoping to help beags out with at least 3 of 4 in NY but was not in the cards.

Ichiro got robbed on that deep hit to center vs. A's ...actually that was a great catch.

Our new young pitcher hadn't given up a run all season (17 2/3 innings), till Vald ended that last night, with a 3 run double.

Watching and rooting for the M's is hard.

Youch, last night's double-header stings. What a slug-fest with NYY coming out on top. Great hitting by them. Papi got his 43rd.
                              We play again today.
