For the Teams that are new to this Fantasy Football League

      Nice start for me!

Every Defense starts with 20 points. The Game average for a good defense game is somewhere in the 12-14 range. The Guru picked 14 for the Steelers this week.

You can lose or gain points on defense during the game.

      See the Defense Scoring below.

The big play for the Defense is always the Interception or fumble return for a touchdown. This is 2 points for the interception/fumble and 6 for the touchdown. The Steelers had these stats for last nights game.

      17 PA, 278 YDS, DTD (42), 2 Int, 3 SACK.

By giving up 278 Yards and 17 points the defense point total was at 11 points.

But with the intereception return for a touchdown you ended up with 19 points.

Another big play is a Special teams touchdown. A Special Teams TD is 6 points for the Defense.

      Walt

      DFR - Defensive/ST Fumble Recovered (ID/DT/DST) 2 points
DTD - Total Defensive and Special Teams TD 6 points
      Int - Interceptions 2 points
      PA - Points Against, Total Points Scored 0 - 6 PA = 8 points
      7 - 13 PA = 6 points
      14 - 20 PA = 4 points
      21 - 27 PA = 2 points

      SACK - Sack 1 point
      STY - Safety 2 points
      YDS - Yards Allowed 0 - 49 YDSs = 12 points
      50 - 99 YDSs = 10 points
      100 - 149 YDSs = 8 points
      150 - 199 YDSs = 6 points
      200 - 249 YDSs = 4 points
      250 - 299 YDSs = 2 points

        TE Miller 16.1 pts.

I get 16.1 points from TE Miller for Pittsburg for his 101 yards and 1 TD! (Forget about replay on him stepping out of bounds).

I'd never heard of this guy. I can see how fun it is to watch all teams now instead of your home team with Fantasy Football.

I had Miller in a fantasy league last year. As Big Ben started to get comfortable with him he was producing good reliable points. I think he will be one of the better TE in the NFL this year.

NFL injury reports are filled with bogus information and it makes it difficult to pick out the fact from the fiction in the report. Sometime players are listed as doubtful until 24 hours before the game. In some cases those same players will show no signs of an injury and play the entire game. So waiting until Sunday morning to make a decision on stating or sitting that player is the norm for a lot of people Fantasy Football Leagues.

Now Thursday night games will make it a dicey situation with injured players. In the Fantasy Football League rules it states that when the first game of the week is played you are no longer able to add or drop a player for the rest of the week. In the past with most games being played on Sunday you were able to add or drop a player until 5 minutes before the kickoff of the first game on Sunday. With Thursday games that same rule still applies. So beware in the second half of the NFL season there are quit a few Thursday games

I bring this up because I have Mike Vanderjagt as my place kicker in another league. He was listed as questionable all week but now today he listed as out. So I will not able to pick up a replacement place kicker because the add drop window is closed for the week. I will now be playing without a place kicker in that league.

                Mike,

Is a kicker required in your other league on the roster? If you don't have one for that week, do you have an illegal roster and automatically lose?

I ask because I have 1 K and 1 DST on my team in our league and am worried about the bye week when the DST and K won't be playing.

Because of injuries and bye weeks you need backups!

If you play a player or a defense that has a bye week, you still have a legal lineup. You just will not get any points from them. An illegal roster is one when you have 3 or more Running backs listed. Or 5 wide receivers. Etc.

It is best to have an least one extra player or defense on your Roster unless there are several equal players available as Free Agents.

You do not want to place in the position were you have no one your team as a sub and there are no free agents to help you out.

Mike, how do you have the waviers set up. Is there a time period when you can not get Free Agents from Thursdays game/games to Monday's night game/games?

                    Thanks Walt,

Looks like I may be playing the free agent/waiver wire later in the season. My K and DST both have the same bye week.

                    • Walt,

There is no time period when you can not get Free Agents from Thursdays game/games to Monday's night game/games? CBS has it set up that way. Thats why I post about injuries and Thursday games.

                        • I can get live scoring on my desktop but not on my laptop. That means I have go back forth between the living room and office. Wow what a big day for defense.

                          • Whats funny is as of right now, My reseves have scored more points. Maybe I should have used Pennenton as he would have given me 25.4 points if I had used him.

                            • Sept 1 2006 ESPN Power Ranking?

                              ESPN.com's Power Rankings

The offseason rankings were determined by a poll of ESPN.com's NFL staff -- writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli, Michael Smith, Scouts Inc. insiders Jeremy Green and Keith Kidd, and ESPN.com NFL editor Peter Lawrence-Riddell.

So much for the so called experts!

#1 Seahawks had a hard time beating the # 23 ranked Lions 9 to 6.

                              #2 Panthers lost to # 17 Falcons 20 to 6.

                              # 5 Broncos lost to # 22 Rams 18 to 10.

                              # 8 Cowboys lost to the # 11 Jaguars 24 to 17.

                              # 12 Buccaneers lost to the # 18 Ravens 27 to 0.

                              # 7 Patriots had a hard time beating the # 30 Bills 19 to 17.

This is what make Fantasy Football fun. The losting team's players all put up bad Fantasy Numbers. All of the Seahawk players put up bad Fantasy Numbers. And some of the best Fantasy Scoring came from the # 32 ranked 49ers and # 21 ranked Cardinals.

                                2. F. Gore 29
                                3. D. Ravens 31
