  • History Unraveled: Cubness sunk the BoSox in 1986. Buckner didn't have a prayer

Now, 20 years after the fact, evidence is unearthed of a heretofore unrecognized Cubness factor at play in the 1986 World Series.

As documented at ESPN Page 2, while he was in the field, Bill Buckner was wearing a Chicago Cubs batting glove under his fielder's mitt.

Buckner didn't have a chance. The Red Sox didn't have a chance. Red Sox fans didn't have a chance.

It was pure folly to intertwine the curses of both the Red Sox and the Cubs. The futility of the WS was ordained; the results inevitable.

The only variable was the time and manner of the implosion.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

    “You shouldn't wear that body.”

I consider Bill Buckner a Dodger except for that play.

To me, that play was the single worst in baseball history. It killed me to see the Mets win that Series.

On the other hand, Kirk Gibson's homer in game 1 of the 1988 World Series was the single best play in Baseball history. And, it more than made up for that Bill Buckner fiasco.

      Steve,

Are you sure that the Bartman in Chicago didn't superimpose the Cub's emblem on Buckner's glove to deflect some of the heat that he has sustained for the past 3 years and will sustain into Chicago folklore?

      Just a thought!
