  • What is Eli Manning Worth?

In 2004 the Eli Manning trade cost the NY Giants several draft choices and Philip Rivers. The result of the trade is:

Eli Manning = Philip Rivers + Nate Kaeding + Shawne Merriman + Roman Oben (acquired from TB for the Giants 2005 5th rounder)

Would you make the same trade today knowing what players you gave up for Eli Manning?

Yes, He can still be a top QB. He is not his brother but might be one day.

It sounds like the Giants traded a Marriott Maui Ocean Club, a few Laguna Surf units and and Orange Lake Country club unit and got a Sam Rayburn blue week worth 10000 RCI Points in return.

Eli Manning sucks and the Giants got exactly what they deserve taking that whiny baby.

OK he sucked for the 4 games he lost but he played good in one of those loses and did well this past weekend with the win. I admit a couple of those throws I cursed the TV. Then I cheered when he did well. He is still very young and needs some time to grow up.

Don't know. I believe he is put under the gun at his 1st year. Philip Rivers is kept on sideline to observation. And when he put in, I believe he is allowed to throw, Philip is under Marty ball. It is total different develope path.

Will Giant sell if they just keep Philip Rivers? I doubt that will be the case. Maybe 10,000 blue RCI point week will get more in resell market than Marriott's week if there is no ROFR. On the other hand, if the owner can only think of Timeshare Relief, both probably the same.

LaDainian Tomlinson has made Rivers and rest of the team look like champions. If you take Tomlinson 29 TDs away I don't think Rivers or the rest of the backup could make up for those 29 TDs. I don't think the value of that trade will show for a few years.

The Chargers could have drafted Vick a few years ago instead they traded that pick to the Dirty Birds and ended up getting LaDainian Tomlinson with the 5th pick. The value of that trade is now showing up.

Only time will tell if this was a good or bad trade.

However, in general, trades involving multiple picks or players have helped the team that gets those draft choices and/or players more. Herschel Walker comes to mind. While he helped the Vikings some, it was the Cowboys that I feel got the better part of the trade.

In 1989, at the height of his NFL career, the Cowboys traded his rights to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a total of five players (LB Jesse Solomon, DB Issiac Holt, RB Darrin Nelson, LB David Howard, DE Alex Stewart) and six draft picks (which led to Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith, and Darren Woodson).

I was a screaming maniac when the Giants announced everything they gave up to get Eli. I still am.

Heck no! San Diego made out like a bandit. Too bad Papa Manning was so stubborn to not let his baby go to the Chargers. I'm sure it's like he's being fed to the wolves in New York. The Chargers have to be thankful, too. And don't they deserve it after the hell they endured when they took Ryan Leaf (of my alma mater, lol) instead of Peyton Manning?!
