Sammy Sosa's 600th - some photos.

Here are a few photos I took when we saw Sammy Sosa hit his 600th Home Run at the Ranger's stadium in Arlington, Texas. Unfortunately I can't display the good ones as their file size exceeds the limit allowed by the photo server. I have some really great pictures of him crossing the plate and other memorable moments. It seems that there are very few photos I can post as most exceed the 1MB limit. Most of the photos are around 1.1 to 1.35 MB. This is going to become more of a problem as the digital camera's number of pixels increases.

The original file size isn't a problem for displaying on the internet. This image for example started off life as a 16mb file. It is now under 200kb and I hope you will agree, still retains plenty of detail and hasn't been degraded too much by resizing.

So how did you reduce the size of the file? The 1MB limit has nothing to do with the Internet. It is the limit imposed by the photo server on TS4MS that doesn't allow a larger file to be uploaded.

Basically used 'Image Size' in Photoshop and set the long edge to 800 pixels. I also set ppi to 72 although I was advised on one board this is not necessary.
Then 'Save As' jpg and adjust the slider to get the file to the required size. Slider position will vary depending on the detail in the image, but I rarely have to move it below 8.
Alternatively 'Save for Web' which allows finer adjustment of the file size but does strip out the EXIF information.
