  • Bonds - 756 Home Run

Josie and her son is at the game, I am glad that they were able to witness history.

No mater what kind problems Barry has had with the public or the law, I am happy for him and his family. I am also glad he hit the 756 home run ball here in San Francisco at ATT Park.

Here's the official story on the Giants website. I am glad he got to hit the record run "in his own house."

I hope all the naysayers read the article (although they probably won't). It says that he's also set records for the most home runs by a 42 year old and by a 43 year old, and both of those records were after drug testing began!

I don't know if anyone was watching the new young pitcher 'John Lannon' pitch to Barry Bonds. But he was in my son's class in school, and they were both starting pitcher's for Chaminade. We are good friends with him, and his family. It's been fun watching him.

At first I hated the ideal that Bonds was going to break Henry Aaron Home Run record; but after hearing Hank Aaron talking about Bonds and his record the past two weeks.

I feel Hank Aaron is one class act to follow. He stated that he holds no ill feelings toward Bonds breaking his record and Hank even send Bonds a contgratulatory message on the big screen after Bonds broke his record.

ESPN actually had an article on this awhile back. It was semi-scientific in nature, using things such as Barry's weight gain related to increased strength, related to increased bat speed, increased fly ball distance, etc. They analyzed every home run he hit after his alleged steroid use would have presumably started (1999, I think). ESPN concluded that he would have about 90 less HR (IIRC) than he does now, so he would've just recently passed Willie had he not used steroids.

With regard to this accomplishment in general, I think whomever it was (Joe Morgan?) that suggested that this period in baseball simply be referred to as the "Steroid Era" in the same manner as the "Dead Ball Era", was dead on. There's no asterisks next to Cy Young's or Walter Johnson's numbers. Barry may have used steroids, but he's certainly among a large group of modern players that also used, some of whom have been outed (Giambi, Canseco, McGwire, Palmeiro, Sosa, etc) and undoubtedly many others that haven't. Just because Barry's HR total is more significant than that of others, his alleged cheating is no more (or less) significant, and there's no way we'll ever know who was or wasn't using prior to the initiation of drug testing. That is not fair! All YOU or anybody has is hearsay evidence. Secondly, IF he did take the alleged drugs, they were not illegal in baseball at that time. He has been clean ever since according to the drug tests.

Barry Bonds simply has the best hand to eye coordination than ANYONE is his era of baseball. NOBODY in modern times can compete with his statistics - after the "alleged" steriod use. Even today, at 43 years old, he is the most feared hitter in baseball and is the leader AGAIN in on base percentage.

I agreed with you 100% . Bonds has the "BEST HAND TO EYE COORDINATION" in major league baseball today. Steriod or no Steriod you need this Hand to Eye Coordination to hit a little white baseball coming from a pitcher; throwing a fastball at 80-98 mph. To all saying this is steriod go to a baseball batting cage and try hitting a ball going to you at 80 mph.
