  • So How Was Your Sports Week End?

My 4 day week end started on Thursday with flying From Milwaukee to Atlanta for the first leg on my son’s annual baseball trip. Each year he goes on a 6 to 8 day baseball trip with about 6 other baseball fans. The object is to visit all of the Major League Baseball Parks over a 7 or 8 year time period. This year baseball trip included Atlanta, Tampa Bay, and Miami. It adds to the trip if the Brewers happens to be playing in any of these baseball parks. This is the first time I went on one of his baseball trips. I am a Brewers Fan but I also was a Milwaukee Braves fan first. So, with the Brewers playing the Braves it was a perfect time to join him and his friends. But since I also have tickets for all of the Packers’ games, I wanted to fly back on Saturday to see LT and the Chargers play the Pack on Sunday.

We had a great time in Atlanta. The people of Atlanta, the Braves’ fans and the workers at Turner Field were all just great. They were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

They also have a Braves’ Hall of Fame at Turner Field. They include the Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta Braves in their Hall of Fame. They even have a picture of the "Babe" in a Boston Braves' uniform. It was very well done.

I got back to Milwaukee by 3:00 pm. I had time to talk to my wife about what happen when I was gone, to eat, take a Hot Tub, and then watch the Wisconsin Badgers play on TV at 7:00.

The next morning I went up to Green Bay with my Grandson to watch the Packers/Chargers game.

It was a game that most Packers’ Fans will never forget. You would think that only in Movies would a 37 year old QB throw 3 touchdowns including the record tying 420th touchdown pass to win the game against a team that was 14-2 last year and some experts had picked to go to the Super Bowl this year.

By the way, I did watch the Cowboys beat The Bears on TV Sunday night. I still hope Grossman remains the Bears QB for another 5 years. He gives them the best chance to win……..Not.

While it looks like the Brewers will miss the Playoffs this year, I was happy to see a very young team play some very good baseball this year. If Ben Sheet would have been healthy all year and if Bill Hall would have matched last years numbers, who know what might have been.

1935: In attempt to draw more fans, the Braves sign an aging Babe Ruth. However at the age of 40, The Babe's best years are behind him. Ruth would homer in his first NL at bat, but there would not be much success that followed. The Bambino hit only .187 and had only 4 dingers heading into June before The Babe had one last hurrah. In a game at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field the Babe blasted 3 homers in a game against the Pirates. A few days later Babe Ruth would retire with an All-time record 714 career Homers, a record that would last 40 years. While Babe Ruth was struggling to come up with the form that made him a legend, the Braves were just hoping to win a game. The Braves would suffer their worst season in franchise history with a record of 38-115.

Walt, you need to call some Chicago radio sports talk shows and talk up your support for Rex G and what a terrible mistake it would be to bench him.

The Colts provided another great game.

I do feel bad for Houston, tho, with all those injuries. I hope they still have a great season.

What about those Giants?!?! Coming back in the second half and making a great goal line stand to finish the game? Way to go!!

Wish we would have had the Green Bay game televised here. I love Brett. I'm so glad they are doing well!!

Tennis Walt . . . as someone looking forward to her return "home" to Milwaukee next week . . . I had a great weekend watching the Packers' thriller on Sunday at my sister-in-law's place in West Allis!!

Packers are 3-0 . . . and Brett's looking good. A good time to be a Packers' fan. We just bought tickets for their game down in Kansas City since that is only 3 hours from our current house in Iowa (which I'm going to be commuting from to Milwaukee for work until it sells).
