Just heard on the news that he will not return.

I wonder if the Red Sox will go after him. I like Mike Lowell a lot, but I wonder how it will shake out.

A-Rod is an excellent hitter, but despite his leading the league in all 4 categories, hasn't played in a World Series.

I commend him for quitting especially if it's because of Torre, who will be on Letterman tonight.

I can't imagine the Sox signing him due to the sheer animosity based on past history. I hope we don't sign him, but hope that some other team who could use a power hitter does.

Whoever gets him will have a great hitter, but RSN can do without him.

Now Jeter is a different story.

IMIO if the team wanted Torre to stay they should have worked as a team and all quit. Wanta bet that where ever Torre goes A rod will follow.

I think he will end up in Chicago. He loves Lou Pinella. Pinella was his manager in Seattle when he was young.

Giants? Angels? Dodgers? All could use a big bat.

I would think that SF would be a reasonable fit, given their need to replace Bonds' production, but I'm not sure it makes sense financially, or in terms of how the Giants want to move forward. Replacing the best player of the past 20 years with the best current player may be more distraction than the Giants care to deal with at this point.

It will be interesting to see this unfold.........

Not sure I would want him on the Angels for $30 mil a year which is what is projected. I honestly don't see it happening in Anaheim.

I may have to take this back...with the developments going on with the Dodgers who have rid themselves of Grady Little and likely will get Torre and Mattingly and possibly go after a few Yankee free agents.....it may be motive enough for Arte Moreno to shell out the bucks for A-Rod now.

Heard on ESPN radio this morning that Detroit is a distinct possibility for ARod. Can't remember if it was Stark or Kirkjian commenting. Also mentioned the Mets as a strong possibility.

He is a great hitter in regular season, but he is no Mr. October. So why should the Dodgers spend 30 million dollars? Why!!! A-Rod would be a major draw of baseball fans and national television on the West coast with the absence of B Bonds.

Agreed....and the Dodgers also need a third baseman.

And so do the Angels. If the Dodgers sign Torre and A-Rod then they gain and advantage in the marketing and PR race in the So. Cal area. That is why I think the Angels may be in the mix as well.

As a Seattle Mariners fan, I watched A-Rod through "the formative years". It seems he went on to become a team chemistry killer. He surely did Texas no favors, and I don't see that he helped the Yankees advance. Maybe he needs a change of scenery.
