I don't see them being arrogant at all! I see a great team working really hard. They don't talk "trash" about other teams. I see Tom Brady helping other team players up when they are down. I don't see them egging on other teams or being unprofessional when the refs give them bad calls.
They always seem to come back when they are losing.
I think Tom Brady is an amazing QB and I love the excitment of watching the games every week.
I hope they keep winning!

There hasnt been the slightest evedence that the Pats cheated in any of their Superbowl wins. On field taping has been standard practice in NFL
for over 40 years. In fact an employee of Jets was asked to stop filming at Foxboro, the Patriots home field, LAST year.

Belichik is certaily guilty of being one of the most arrogant SOBS in the league...(after all, he was Parcell's protoge)
But as history will prove, he is also the best coach in the post salary cap era,
and maybe in the history of the game.

You have the opportunity of watching what could be the best team in the history of the NFL.... Enjoy it!!!!

Why do you suppose there wasn't a peep out of the commissioner's office about the evidence recovered from the Patriots? Your can believe what you want, and I'll believe what I want, but common sense tells me that if there was really nothing there the NFL would have been very anxious to disclose that publicly. BTW, on-field taping (scouting) is not to be confused with taping the other teams sideline signals.

As far as seeing the best team in history, I've already seen many teams that would beat this Patriots team. The 70's Steelers, '85 bears and '90's Cowboys come to mind. I know my football, thank you!

Really, I'd just like to see the arrogance toned down. They are good, I will not deny that. I just don't like how smarmy they are about it.

How so ? What smarminess ? Maybe you and I have different definitions (when I think smarmy, I think of the literary character as the emodiment of smarminess - Uriah Heep). How is that arrived at, by what actions/statements of the Pats? Truly, I'd like to know and not being contentious here. Just trying to sort out what is meant.

These guys are getting paid big bucks to score (and entertain the masses)... This is not something new in the NFL....Check out Tampa Bay, San Francisco, Dallas, and Chicago's lop sided victories in just the Super Bowls alone...

We have never called ourselves those terms - your problem is with the sportswriters as I see it.

The players may think Bill is the best they've ever played for, but that is their lived experience opinion. This may be the best Patriots team ever, but that is proven in the Win/Loss columns.

No chain yanked. Just good dialogue.

Good response. I think that they think that this is Japanese baseball. You know how the winning team must not win by a lot as to save the losing team's face !
That argument is so lame. We've even put in our 2nd string QB when the score has been run up. Maybe if the other team could put some points on the board, there wouldn't be a problem ! Perhaps if the other teams spent more time running the ball than their mouths, it would be even less of a problem.
So, let me see, Tom Brady should make less good passes and Moss/Gaffney/Samuels, etc. should drop the ball just to help out the other team ???

"Look, I know everyone now assumes the Patriots have been cheating for the past six years, even though they hadn't been penalized even once before last weekend; even though no coach or player has left New England since 2002 and blown the whistle on them; and even though the New England players were fired up Sunday night, partly because everyone has been so eager to stick an asterisk next to everything that's happened from 2001-2007 (check this Jackie MacMullan column for more details).

Our "evidence" that there may have been a prolonged pattern of cheating last week came from "unnamed sources" and players who had already lost big games to the Patriots and seemed excited to have an excuse after all these years. (Kordell Stewart, where were you last week? We were waiting to hear from you!) This is a league in which every coordinator calls in plays by holding a sheet over his mouth so nobody can read his lips. And yet, the Patriots videotaped another team's signals for three-fourths of a quarter and everyone reacted like they kidnapped a Jets assistant and tortured him for information or something.

Lemme ask you two questions:



Isn't there a chance that Belichick thought Eric Mangini and the Jets had gained an unfair advantage?
1. Is there a chance -- just a chance -- Belichick has gotten a little paranoid in his old age, and since an undermanned Jets team played them closely in all three Pats-Jets games last season, he spent the spring and summer wondering if Mangini had figured out a way to steal their signals, so he decided to tape their coaches in Week 1 to see if that was true? And then he got caught?

2. Is there a chance Roger Goodell is doing the "I'm leaving no stone unturned" routine because he's so determined to show everyone there's a new sheriff in town (shades of Reggie Hammond at Torchy's), and because it's becoming more and more obvious the previous administration was asleep at the wheel on anything and everything except the next TV deal?

Scenario 1 doesn't seem completely unrealistic. Neither does Scenario 2. So why is everyone so anxious to make the leap that one indiscretion equals a six-year pattern of behavior, and there's more to this story simply because Goodell publicly (and loudly) demanded the Patriots turn over all their tapes, notes and recordings? If this pattern of inappropriate behavior had been happening for six years, wouldn't they have been caught before Sept. 9, 2007? Wouldn't a league filled with coaches and executives who obviously hate and resent the Pats have been dying to blow the whistle on them? Wouldn't one disgruntled ex-Pat over the past five years (and there have been many) have blown the whistle on them just to stick it to Belichick? And are we honestly supposed to believe nobody else was doing this? "


Yes, we got caught. It'll be interesting when the truth comes out about all the other teams. Doesn't make it right, but at least all come down from the high moral authority here.

Beags, Bill Simmons writes some hilarious stuff, but given that 8 (or more) out of every 10 of his articles are on the Red Sox and/or Pats, I'd hardly consider him objective.

Bill's point that no disgruntled former players have ratted out Belichick is moronic. The players would not ever have to know that the OC/DC called a certain play based on stolen signals. They just run the play that's called.

Don't you find it odd/curious/weird that the NFL destroyed the evidence recovered from the Patriots without disclosing it's contents. I mean really, anyone with a modicum of common sense would conclude that if it were just a bunch of meaningless scribbles on napkins, the NFL would have immediately come out and said that there was no evidence that the Patriots had used illegal tactics during their Super Bowl winning seasons. Of course, absence of such a statement doesn't prove guilt, but it sure makes one wonder why the NFL didn't use the golden opportunity it had to remove any doubt, doesn't it?

Your beef is with the NFL then, not the Pats. Would be interesting, however,
maybe what was destroyed implicated everyone else. Simmons makes sense.
Simmons writing about the Sox is not germane to the argument he makes for the Pats.
If the NFL had anything more on the Pats, they would've come forward. "Cleaning House" as the commish says.
No evidence despite what some want to believe. Wishing won't make it true and it won't shore up any more wished-for arguments.
