Just thinking here, if the NFL had such damaging evidence, why wasn't Belichick suspended ?

Simmons writing about the Sox is not germane to the argument he makes for the Pats.
If the NFL had anything more on the Pats, they would've come forward. "Cleaning House" as the commish says.
No evidence despite what some want to believe. Wishing won't make it true and it won't shore up any more wished-for arguments.

Considering that the NFL would stand to lose a lot more by revealing that the Pats cheated the past years than they would if they didn't, I don't think your logic is sound. As I said previously, there has been a doubt surrounding the legitimacy of the Patriots past victories since the scandal first broke. Why wouldn't the NFL do everything in it's power to dispel that doubt when it had the opportunity? I'd like a logical answer to that question from Mr Goodell. Anything that comes out of the commissioner's office regarding this matter is questionable at this point.
BTW, Simmons is a self-admitted Pats/Sox fan -- enuf about him. As I said, he writes some amazingly funny stuff, but he's not Walter Cronkite.Jim

I belong to a sportsblog -CBS Sports and here's a great, IMHO, take on it:
"umm didnt the Dolphins have audio last season of their opponents play calling.....nothing happened to them....thsi in my mind is no different"
"The Dolphins admitted publicly to possessing unauthorized tapes of: none other than the Patriots of all teams.... Result: No penalty assessed....
But now it's the Patriots so they ought to be crucified by the league (afterall, they are satan). Sounds to me like a guy took video from the Patriots bench of the Jets defensive signals, or so the allegation goes. Note: You can't do the offense because it is radioed in.
Ummm If teams are concerned about this, then be more subtle with your signals. It's kinda like coaches calling plays behind their clipboards so lip readers can't see them. Hmmmm Nothing new to the NFL now is it.
The other part is, why isn't the league allowing Defensive Coordinators to call in their plays via radio, just like the offense? Why did the owners vote this down? And who voted it down?
Here's a quote from PFT:
"Either way, this issue is generating all sorts of buzz in league and media circles. Though it could be driven by the perception that the Patriots are the top organization in the league and the other 31 franchises would love to see them take a fall..."
"Still, we doubt that the Pats are the only team stealing signals, if the final decision is that they are or have been. Multiple readers have told us that the Eagles were taking great pains to shield their own defensive signals from prying eyes against the Packers, which suggests that this could be a fairly common thing. "
Which is interesting, because the Packers complained to the league the Pats did this to them last year.
The other interesting part of this is that where did Eric Mangini come from? He was an Offensive Coordinator for none other than the Pats. Was this a set up????? Afterall, it was his Jets who reported it to NFL Security who then confiscated the camera.
Is this payback for the Pats alleging tampering (which the Jets basically admitted to in the press last fall) in the Deion Branch hold out? The interesting part is again the NFL did not punish the Jets for clearly violating league rules. They didn't even get a warning. Why? Because the NFL knows it happens all the time but doesn't enforce it.
So why is the NFL contemplating enforcing something they have turned a blind eye too for years? And why didn't they enforce some of these other rules, but instead continue to turn a blind eye? Is it because of who did it?
Let's face it, the NFL wants parity -- not dynasties. The would like nothing better than for the Patriots to fade off into the sunset. Which brings us to another interesting thing that has occurred: The annual apology to the Patriots organization for poor playoff officiating from the head of the NFL officials -- two years in a row...
I guess if you can't beat them on the field.... Then cheat off of it. Oh, but only the Pats do that. Right?
I love football, but over the last few seasons something's not right. While I know people will trash me for saying that because I am a Pats fan (especially Colts, Chargers and Jets fans), if you honestly look at it objectively (e.g. insert your team into the equation in the Pats role)... You'll probably come to the same conclusion. "

In all actuality, I don't care. Although I would love to know why Goodell didn't clear the Patrtiots of any wrongdoing when he had the perfect opportunity, I really don't care if the Pats cheat their way to winning the next 10 SB's or all have their careers ended in a massive Boston traffic accident. Mostly, it's damned cold here and I can't golf, and I'm stuck writing up a patent disclosure here at work, so I've decided to heckle you Bostonians. We're all entitled to a little pre-holiday amusement, aren't we?
One final word, it obviously makes far more sense for the NFL to destroy evidence condemning the Patriots than it would to destroy evidence exonerating them. Anyone that won't at least acknowledge that observation is either sleeping with Tom Brady, or has been over indulging in eggnog.Jim

Elan - it's cold and snowy here, too.
Patient disclosure ? As an NP and 3rd year law student, I can appreciate and share your pain.
Hey, at least we agree on politics ! I do, however, disagree on your take of the NFL's alleged destruction of evidence. Does not hold water, isn't congruent and one cannot prove what isn't there; i.e., innuendo.
Anyway...............
Go Celtics !

If anyone's ever patented anything, they know what a PITA it is. And 99+% of them are asinine in nature anyway. Having said that, this one I'm writing up is one of my better ones and may actually be enforced at some point down the road. But it's still more legalese than anyone should ever be subjected to. Insider trading????Give me a break!!!! Garnett was one piece of the puzzle....
(As was Ray Allen and all the young kids Aigne has drafted over the last 4 years)
I guess no one on this board can just say
"Congratulations Boston for having a good (baseball or football or basketball )team this year..."
Whatever....
Best wishes to all and your favorite teams in 2008

We were fine all those years when we were the no-threat underdog.
