What are the possible reasons why a 1-4 favorite to win gets last place without an apparent injury?
I am not a horse person, but it looks to me that when the 2 frontrunners slowed down and boxed Big Brown in, he just gave up. Took his ball and went home. Weird.
Is it significant that the winner isn't on the list????
Late entry.

I just don't know. They got to the eighth pole and the jockey asked and just had no horse. Horses have good days and bad ones just like us. I'm thinking it was the heat and humidity here that got to him. We had a 25 degree weather change from yesterday. Maybe a lack of training because of the hoof issues. There was nothing wrong with him I could see.
Kent Desormeaux did the right thing pulling him up and cantering home.
That's why there's no such thing as a sure thing in horse racing.
Ah well. There is always next year.
