  • Cheeseheads! Weigh in on Favre fiasco

You cheeseheads have been especially quiet about this Brett Favre mess. The national news is going crazy. But I am hearing that a poll taken in Green Bay indicated only 47% or so of the folks want Favre back.

Also, the "rally" last weekend in Green Bay for Favre's return had 100-200 people??? I thought Green Bay was a bigger town than that? What gives?

Please give us the inside true scoop.

I would like to see him back with the Pack as their starter. I think he gives them the best chance to make the playoffs. I have said along I felt the Packers forced him out.

Having been born and raised in Wisconsin, I would love for Brett to come back and play for the Packers. The things I did not want to happen in his career were (1) go out like Troy Aikman and Steve Young – forced out by injuries and (2) hang on like Jerry Rice – the Raiders, the Seahawks and then the Broncos.

So, when he decided to retire a few months ago, I was sad for awhile, but then I was glad that he got to go out on his terms – retire after a pretty successful season. The best chance that the Packers have for this season is for Brett Favre to be the quarterback. I also am aware that at sometime you have to move on to the future of the franchise with Aaron Rogers, but wait until one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL is finished. Yes, he retired, but he is entitled to change his mind. He made a pretty rash decision to retire and now is having his second thoughts.

Do I wish this all had not happened – yes! Am I sick of the controversy that is going on – yes! Do I want him back in Green and Gold wearing number 4 – Hell Yes!

I am not a born Cheesehead but have joined the PackerNation since moving here in 1994. While in Iowa we found it easier to get to Packer games than while in Milwaukee. But anyway . . .

I think Brett is acting like a spoiled kid and needs to stay retired. I've heard and read just about everything out there from both sides of the mess and believe that Brett has overestimated the love in terms of the business of running a professional sports franchise.

Here in Milwaukee they are saying it's 60/40 in support of the Packers vs. Brett. Many feel he's jerked this team and its fans for too long. Had it not been for the magical game out in Oakland when his father died, people were ready to boo him out of town and move on.

Even he said that the 2007 season they played over their head. He figured they might be 10-6 but never imagined they would do as well as they did. It was a perfect storm for him and the Packers . . . and he needs to stay retired and enjoy the afterglow of sun setting on his career.

I don't know of any Packer fan that would boo Brett out of town. Yes there are times I have asked myself why did he do that.

Thirsty . . . you either have a short memory or missed the games when the hometown boo-birds were out when Brett was sucking with the career/league high interception season. That would be the year after he threw it away on that stupid 4th and 40+ call agains Philly in the playoffs several years ago.

I think people down here in Milwaukee are tired of Brett and *if* the Packers were to take him back, there would some degree of malcontents in the stands who would express their disapproval.

. . . as a PS . . . on this morning's drivetime radio there was a lot of talk that there are "Packer fans" and then there are "Brett fans" . . . and they may not necessarily the same.

To me the question would be are you going to get the 2005 and 2006 versions of Favre or last year's 2007 Favre? No one knows.

Also, no one knows how A Rogers will do. Can he stay on the field? He's seemed to be injury prone while riding the pine. At least with Favre, he was very hardy.

Who is the better QB, Rogers or Favre? Favre of course. This is going to be interesting.

Initially this drama was starting to look like the Washington Redskins "I Love Sonny (Jurgensen)" . . . "I Love Billy (Kilmer) . . . debates during what I think was the early George Allen years. Besides being a city divided by politics, Washington was a city split and vocal with their support of "their" QB, bumper stickers and all!

Now this is playing out sadly, regardless of who is/are the bad actor(s).

That is the $50M question MShatty. Further, who knows if he will suffer a career ending and life altering injury like another Redskins' QB Joe Theisman?

The fact that the Packers drafted and will be bringing in a couple of QB's speaks to the need for them to shore up the position for the intermediate to long range. Aaron Rogers is a relative unknown although he did look pretty good in Dallas in the Packer's loss in November.

Yes, it always the quarterbacks fault. It is his fault when the receiver falls down. It his fault when the receiver runs the wrong route. They have had a very young receiver corp. Granted I am sure that he has done some very "questionable" throws, but give it that they also run a lot of time routes and he throws where the receiver "should" be.

Yes, he has the NFL record for the all-time pass interceptions.

                        But, he also holds these:
                        • Career Passing Yards
                        • Career Passing Attempts
                        • Career Completions
                        • Career Touchdown Passes
                        • Career Wins as a Starting QB

Does it not make any sense that if someone has thrown the ball more than anyone else in history, he has a good chance of having the most balls caught by the wrong team?

Sure I appreciate the Babe Ruth phenonomen of most homers and most strike outs too . . . and I wasn't saying that it was all Brett's fault. But even he admitted it that was the worst season in his professional career.

Like most other rapid Packers' fans, there is no honest debate that is going to happen here.

Bottom line is that if Brett was an employee with any other organization, these shennagins would not be tolerated or given the attention this is. Employees make decisions about their careers every day, some good and some not so good. Rarely are we given a mulligan when we have regrets and for sure, nobody is guaranteed a right to a do-over if they do make a bad choice.

Brett made a decision . . . I seriously doubt that ANYone made him make any decision that he didn't want to make. I think he is a confused man and is challenged to make good choices. This is the main who was addicted to pain killers, who didn't marry the mother of his child until 7 years later, and who enjoyed the party life "with the boys" even after committing to marriage.

In my opinion, Brett seems to be very ego-centric with everything "about him" and not the others around him or who may be affected by his actions. I didn't always have this opinion of him, but as this plays out, my views of him are becoming increasingly jaded.

The biggest concern with Rodgers other than his lack of experience is his injury history. Rodgers broke his foot in November of 2006 and missed the remainder of the season. Then in 2007, he tore his hamstring. So far, he’s had two serious injuries in three seasons and hasn't even started a game. Yes, he did play well in the Cowboys game last year, but you have to remember that I am pretty sure the Cowboys did not practice its defense based on Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback. Heck, there was only a couple of minutes of film of him actually being in a NFL game.

Who knows. He has big shoes to fill and being the Loyal Cheesehead that I am, I will cheer and cuss for whomever is on the field, just like I have done since the Lombardi years.

I agree with most of the things you have posted.

I will agree that he is a person of great phyical courage and mental toughness. He has overcome some bad breaks earlier and I admired him for it.

But in the past 4 or 5 years the national TV guys have gotten so that they do not point out some of the bone head throws on Brett's part.

But Brett has jerked the Packers around in the past for the past 3 or 4 years on the tirement issue. On his word they went out and drafted 2 QB's. Maybe Brett through after the pack did that then they would give him his release.

He was catered to much by some of the former coaches and became used to getting his way.

The year before the new coach arrived Sherman was unable to to controll Brett and Brett interceptions were the main cause of the 4 and 12 record.

The next year the new coach after a 4 and 8 start then got Brett to play more of a team game and they won the last 4 games. Did the coach get a lot smarter in those last four games, or did Brett start to exercise the game plan?

This past year Brett played more of a team concept. He could not beat Dallas and when he left the game hurt people have for gotten Rogers came in and did a better job moving the ball and scoring more in less time then Brett did.

Brett has not won a really big game since the Super Bowl win. Last year he threw a pass that no 16 year vet should have thrown to lose the game to the Gaints.

He blew the GM and coach this June when he asked them to come to his home to talk about unretiring and then cancelled.

The legend seems to developered a unteam like atitude.

I admired the atitude and professionalism of both Mannings.

I was so very hapy for the Gaints Manning who took a lot of unfair abuse but got the job done with class.

It is really sad to see what Brett had been doing behind the sences the past few months to cause this problem. Brett has USED several mounh pieces.

With his about $13,000,000 to $14,000,000 per contract for the next 3 years what team would want to pick that up?

The sories in todays(Racine) Journal Times help shed light on his actions before this lastest flap THAT BRETT HAS CAUSED.

I say trade him to the Oakland Raiders as he belongs with Al Davis so he has to deal with a ego comparable to his. Davis's head got to big for his hat as IMHO seeming so has Brett.

Hasn't Davis has gone a great job the last 10 years since he has been running the team after getting rid of key people and hiring his yes men.

IMHO Bart Starr would have won more Super Bowls than Brett has if Bart played on the same teams Brett did. Bart never became the primma donna that Brett has and Bart remembered it was a team game.

IMHO Bart has Class, respect and Brett has the records. I feel sorry for Brett, but he has in this case done it to himself.

I think Bart can sleep better at night. I wonder if Brett can seing no matter how this turns out the teams players can not help but be divided because of the actions STARTED by Brett.
