  • Pick the mens final four

The dance cards are out and the brackets are available, so let's see if any of us can pick the final 4 before the dance begins.

For me the final four is three shots Morgan and then one shot oozo or sambuca.

              Didn't we just do this?

What the heck. I'll throw caution to the wind and put my heart on the back burner.

I'll go with Texas, Gonzaga, Illinois, and Florida.

College basketball is still the best sports deal going, but it seems to be approaching the boredom of the NBA. I get the impression that there is one big playground somewhere, where everyone with the potential to play college hoops can be found hanging out. Then one day every recruiter from every college comes by and they pick their teams.

Then the teams play glorified playground ball. It doesn't seem to make any difference if you watching the PAC, WAC, MAC, ACC or any of the others. The parity is unbelievable and it seems like the style of play is the same with almost every team.

Of course, when we go abroad to the Olympics or the World Championships we find that we have forgotten how to play the game we invented, the game some of the rest of world has learned how to play quite well. The entertainment factor of American playground basketball does not go very far when the rules of the game are enforced.

Just little, technical things, like palming the ball and traveling, not to mention mugging other players! Of course, then there's outside shooting. Even with the 3-point play, American playground ball favors slammin, jammin and crammin.

I really believe that almost any major team can beat almost any other major team almost any day. Minor teams can beat some major teams some days. I suspect this year's tournament will prove that. It just depends on which team has the most biorythms in harmony that day.

That's why I'm not going with the top seeds. They are all vulnerable and there is no truly outstanding, better-than-the-rest team. The top seeds will struggle. They will all have a battle. I would be surprised if two of them make it to the Final Four and think it is more likely that none of them will.

This from the person who picked the Seahawks to go to the Super Bowl, sorta, and Indy to not, sorta.

                Here's some quirky odds:

                http://teamrankings.com/ncbt/index.php

When you add up the odds of each of the top seeds being in the Final Four, the total is 122.37%.

When you add up the odds of any of the top seeds winning it all, the total is 44.06%.

I guess what they're saying is that it is almost a certainty that at least one of the top seeds will make it the Final Four, but better than an even chance that none of them will win the tournament.

Where is Gonzaga. I never heard of that one.

I still think Duke has a shot and think Seton Hall can be a spoiler since they spoiled St Johns chances early on.

Frank, I think they are in California or somewhere close out west. They are not new to the big dance and have performed well in it in the past. They played Connecticut in an early season tournament and lost by a last second shot. They have one of the highest scoring players in the country.

Gonzaga is a small catholic college in Spokane Washington. They been good for about the past 8 years. Their most famous player was John Stockton.

The thing about these little schools, is that to be good in College B-ball, you just need a couple of really good players and a great coach.

My picks Duke, UCLA, North Car., & BC.
