Brett's Remarkable Year of 2007!

Listening to Brett Favre's news conference tonight infront of a Jets banner and most of it was still about his time as a Packer!

As much as I'm a fan of his even though he played for the Packers it does get old.

He has held the Packers back for last three years on will he retire or will he come back and this hurts the team going into a draft. This year they listen to him retire and spent a draft pick on another QB and now Brett wants to come back or maybe come back or stay retired and a team can not run a business like this.

The Jets let Pennington go today and even though he has only had one decent season as their QB over the years he was the best they had and now he is released!

I would be worried that as soon as Favre struggles learning the new play book or has a couple bad games he will quit,retire again and leave the team stuck. He sounded like a man that really didn't want to be their but it was all he had and will try it and you can not have your starting QB in this frame of mind!

Like I said I was a big fan and took my daughter to see him have one of the best games against the Oakland Raiders the week his father died and most of the fans were for Brett that night. The problem is he is a 38 year OLD QB that changes his mind like most change their underwear!

Hope it works out for the Jets and their fans!

Brett was 37/38 year last year with an October birthday. This year he will be 39 in October.

He had a really remarkable year for anyone and for someone that was 38 years old it was extraordinary.

Time Will Heal

Any thoughts to how the way the Packer organization impacted Brett's actions? As a packer fan are you proud of how the team management conducted themselves? They are the laughing stock of the sports world and an embarassment to the state. Hopefully change will come sooner rather than later.

I think you are NOT reading all that is written about the Packers and Brett.

There are Brett Favre Fans.

There are Brett Favre and Packers Fans.

There are Packers Fans.

There should be Only Packers Fans that also still cheer for Brett for 2008.

They say time heals all wounds, but whoever came up with that adage didn't know Brett Favre.


When Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy wanted to bury the hatchet Monday night and early Tuesday, it was Favre who said he couldn't get over the things that have been said between the two parties the past few months.

It's Favre who put the franchise in a corner because of his waffling. He retired, then he called and said he wanted to unretire. Then he called the Packers back after they were set to pick him up in a private jet and said he was retired again.

After the team moved on and appointed Aaron Rodgers as his successor, Favre changed his mind again. It appears Favre can't handle the fact that someone could take over his starting position that easily.

Now Favre says he wants to play again but can't commit 100 percent to the Packers. And if he can't get his way in Green Bay, he wants to play elsewhere, preferably in Minnesota although that doesn't seem likely.

Favre not only is holding a grudge against the team that gave him his chance and made him famous, but he wants to play with their fiercest rival. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Unfortunately, because of his stubbornness and indecisiveness, Favre's legacy will take a hit forever.

Why can't Favre be like Steve Young, Jim Brown or Barry Sanders? They quit when they were on top of their game and are still loved today. They left people wanting more, not expecting less.

Ten years from now, people won't remember Favre as a Super Bowl champion, but they will remember him as a self-centered aging quarterback who didn't know when to say when. They won't remember him as being a team player, but rather a selfish player who forced the hand of the Packers organization just to get his own way.

I thought Sterling Sharpe would endure as the most selfish player in the history of this franchise. When Sharpe timed a contract holdout for the week prior to the Packers’ 1994 season opener, he moved to the head of the line of me-first ignoramuses.

And then Favre shoved Sharpe out of the way with yet another act of his traveling Drama Queen Show. Someone who could have been transitioning into a graceful retirement as a beloved, legendary icon is instead leaving a state feeling betrayed, backing an illustrious franchise into a corner and shamelessly throwing a maddeningly underappreciated general manager under the bus.

But this is far more grotesque than even that lame duck of Favre’s that died in the frigid air of Lambeau Field last January and dropped into the hands of the New York Giants’ Corey Webster.

When the Packers were forced to cover themselves last week during this most unfortunate firestorm by revealing they welcomed Favre back in March after he reneged on his retirement only to see him backtrack once again (gee, imagine that), this was a proud franchise clearly backed on its heels. And when Thompson was put into a position of relating how gut-wrenching this whole experience was for him, this was a general manager who was basically pleading for mercy for a crime he did not commit.

To refute your case, I present to you for Exhibit A Favre’s birth certificate, which says he will turn 39 this October. My e-mail address is at the end of this column. I will be happy to respond to any of you who enlighten me with all the quarterbacks in the past quarter century who have taken their teams to the promised land at that age.

For Exhibit B, I present Favre’s cumulative passer ratings during the final five games of the 2006 and ’07 seasons. In 2006, it was 62.22. In 2007, it was 73.25. Furthermore, Favre had 10 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions in those 10 games.

Do those numbers reflect someone who still has the ability to gear up for the stretch run and take a team to the Super Bowl?

No, they reflect just another athlete who is succumbing to the one pass rush no quarterback has ever escaped — the passing of time.

It is said that Romo idolized Favre as a kid — how could he not? — though he minimized the reverence of his recollections before last November's game between Dallas and Green Bay. As it happened, Romo outplayed his erstwhile hero that night, throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns as Favre left the game with an injured right elbow and a separated left shoulder.

Perhaps the evening foretold of an inevitable succession in the NFC. If so, the warning went unheeded. And it's too bad, as Favre might have actually learned something from the second-year starter. Favre wasn't facing a merely younger man. In Tony Romo, he went against a guy still endowed with a sense of humility.

Brett Favre may come back to Green Bay, but he’ll never return as a player.

He left the city at noon Wednesday. He left the Packers organization late Wednesday night.

Now we find out if perspective stayed behind, or if it left on the same plane.

For weeks, the obsession of the sports world on a pro football quarterback — no place more evident than right here — has bounced back and forth between remarkable and ridiculous.

We knew Favre’s career in Green Bay would eventually end, yet we existed in the world of denial because his seemingly timeless career allowed us to, and it did something for our collective self-esteem.

ESPN, Fox Sports, John Madden and Sports Illustrated could blather all they wanted about the marriage of this man from Mississippi and the NFL’s smallest city. But we always knew what they didn’t, that you had to live here to fully understand how a game with No. 4 at the controls could become so important and, maybe, too important.

The divorce papers between the Packers and Favre have been signed. But the category of “irreconcilable differences” must still be dealt with among those who pledge allegiance to the man and those who place their chips with Packers management.

Vitriol will be involved. Tempers will continue to outweigh temperance. Fingers will point, and healing will be gradual at best.

We are hearing from distant outposts that Green Bay’s reputation has been sullied by all this Favre business, that the innocence and tradition of this place has been spoiled. There must be an assumption that black armbands are appearing throughout the region and that counselors are available at every Green Bay street corner.

At the risk of being accused of comparing football to war, we’ll borrow the line that British Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered to the U.S. Congress in December 1941 while referring to enemies of England and the United States: “What kind of people do they think we are?”
We’re about to find out.

Cry if you must. Send letters to the higher-ups on Lombardi Avenue if it is therapeutic. Dump your tickets if your Sundays are forever ruined. Become a Jets fan. Join the radio talk show brigade. Think up nasty nicknames for General Manager Ted Thompson. Let all the emotions clash with whatever developments occur at Lambeau Field and the Meadowlands when the season begins.

That’s OK, and even the most passionate among us shouldn’t be unfairly rebuked for our words and thoughts.

But when it’s time, we need to sit down with someone who can remind us that it is, in the end, only football.

Yes, Brett Favre — the man of charisma, heroism and, in time, legend — has left town. But air, water, family and friends remain.

It’s time for everyone to decide which is more important.

Madden Football Game Curse

The Madden Curse is the belief that bad things can happen to the player or the player's team that is featured on the cover of the All-Madden football game each year.

If there is anything to this curse, Brett "Jet" Favre will probably not finish the season with the Jets and his Ironman string of starts will be broken.



Madden NFL '99

This is the first year that All-Madden Football carried a picture of a player on the cover, that player was Garrison Hearst. Hearst had a career year in 1999 and was one of the hotter names in the NFL at the time. After appearing on the cover, he led the 49ers in rushing and to a first round playoff win over the Green Bay Packers. In their next playoff game against the Atlanta Falcons, Hearst would go down with a knee injury and wouldn't play again until the 2001 season.

Madden NFL 2000

Barry Sanders appeared on the cover with John Madden for the 2000 edition of All-Madden Football. Sanders had a long and impressive career and was still putting up some of the best numbers in the league, as well as some of the most exciting plays. A week before training camp opened for the season, Barry Sanders retired leaving the Detroit Lions with no effective running game.

Madden NFL 2001

During the 2001 season following his appearance on the Madden Football cover, Eddie George averaged 3 yards a carry (a career low) and only ran for just over 900 yards rushing while battling a nagging toe injury.

Madden NFL 2002

The year before, Daunte Culpepper had thrown for over 4,000 yards and completed 33 touchdown passes. After appearing on the cover of Madden NFL 2002, Culpepper went on to throw just 13 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions before having his season ended in week 11 because of injury.

Madden NFL 2003

Running back Marshall Faulk appeared on the Madden NFL 2003 cover. Faulk had one of his best years in the league the previous season, but after appearing on the cover he missed five regular season games due to an ankle injury. He never again rushed for more than 1,000 yards in a season. The Rams would go 7-9 on the year, one year removed from a 14-2 season that resulted in a Super Bowl appearance.

Madden NFL 2004

Michael Vick, quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, appeared on the cover Madden NFL 2004. Five days after the cover was released, Michael Vick fractured his right fibula. He was only able to play in the last five regular season games that season.

Madden NFL 2005

Madden NFL 2005 saw the first defensive player appear on the cover, Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens. That season Lewis would have no interceptions after having made six the previous season. He would also be injured during week 15 of that season and be forced to miss the last game of the year. The Ravens would also miss the playoffs that year after having won their division the season before.

Madden NFL 2006

After having led the Eagles to the Super Bowl only to lose to the Patriots, Donovan McNabb appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 2006 the next season. Though the Eagles as a team would make it back to the NFC championship Game, McNabb would battle a sports hernia the entire season only to get knocked out of the game against the Dallas Cowboys and have season ending surgery.

Madden NFL 2007

Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander appeared on the Madden NFL 2007 cover the year after setting the record for most rushing touchdowns scored in a season. After missing only one game in his previous 64 starts, Alexander would miss six starts due to a fractured foot. He would go on to fail rushing for 1,000 yards in season for the first time since 2000.

Madden NFL 2008

During Tennessee Titans' quarterback Vince Young's season on the cover of Madden NFL 2008, he would go on to throw for less than 2,500 yards with 17 interceptions. Young would go on to be hurt and miss his first NFL game because of an injury. Up until that point, Young had never missed a game due to injury during his NFL, college, or high school seasons.

I too am a lifelong Packers fan. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I lived through the 70's and 80's when wins did not come easy or often. I am also a Brett Favre fan. He has brought the Packers a lot of success throughout the last 16 years.

I do not see how someone who calls themselves a PACKERS fan would "Put away all packer gear from the house". Mine is displayed proudly. I live in California and wear my Green & Gold everyday, both to work and after work.

No, I am not happy that he is a New York Jet and I do not like Ted Thompson, but I am still a Packers fan. I will more than likely follow the Jets more closely than I have ever before, but first off I am still a Packers fan.

If you are going to be a "Fair-weather" fan, go be a Jets fan!

I'm bummed. I've always enjoyed watching Favre on the field. For better or worse, it was always entertaining. I wish him well, and I’ll be watching the Jets (and Packers) now. Good excuse to watch more games.

I certainly hope Aaron Rodgers can fill his shoes. If Rodgers fails to perform or gets injured, giving up on Favre will look pretty foolish in hindsight. Packer fans will be comparing their relative performance all season long. If Aaron disappoints ... we'll see the signs at Lambeau ...

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Brett Favre dropped back, looked downfield and launched a long spiral about 5 yards past his intended receiver. A few plays later, the Jets quarterback short-hopped a toss that thumped into the grass.

"I felt 38 today," Favre said Wednesday after New York's morning practice. "I'm not going to lie to you."

Favre fired a few duds in his fifth practice since joining the Jets, saying his rocket right arm is a bit tired.

"My arm's kind of dragging a little bit today," Favre said. "It's not really sore, but just fatigued. To be honest with you, I'm surprised that, I don't want to say I feel good, that I've been able to make it through every practice so far.""No pain, but I'm 38 years old. It's going to be fatigued a little bit."
