I watched the equestrian events! They were on smaller cable networks and not a huge amount of coverage but I found them.
The Germans walked away with everything in dressage but Gina Miles pulled a silver for USA in Eventing.

I am watching the Swimming, Basketball, Beach and Indoor Volleyball, Gymnastics and whatever else is on that looks interesting.
It's been a bit of a dud since NBC in their ultimate wisdom has everything tape delayed by 6 hours. In this age of instant communications, they are quite pathetically stupid for trying to shoehorn everyone into their prime time line up. They are broadcasting on about 5 channels. No reason for them to withhold the biggest history making swims.
I watched a few minutes of the young ladies playing volleyball. They are very good, but as far as watching the coverage of the events, that was it. I let the wife watch and I went into the basement to do my stock stuff.
For me, as a Brit, the greatest thing has been to see the level of disappointment shown by British competitors when they win anything other than Gold. No more of the 'Ah well, we did as well as we could mentality'. I thought the spirit had been knocked out a generation by the Nanny State and the insistence that nobody was allowed to be considered a loser any more. The 'no loser' mentality actually means no winners!
When you see people literally in a state of total collapse but still disappointed at 'Only getting the silver' it gives hope for the future after all.
By the way, congratulations to Michael Phelps on the astonishing achievement of 8 'Golds' at a single Olympics. It certainly puts him at the top of the tree as far as swimming is concerned. I don't buy into the 'Greatest Athlete Ever' claims as it's not possible to compare performances across disciplines as there are no others where it's possible to compete in so many events.
yes ,..UK have done really really well. Last count they were 4th in the medal count .
Russia (former USSR) since they lost their "empire" are well down the list ..replaced by China.

On the traditional count ie. the number of gold medals we are 3rd at present. If you work on total medals we are =5th. Whichever way you do it I think it's a phenomenal performance half way through the Games.
Clearly things will change because we aren't going to pick up much in the athletics. The heartening thing is that we are picking up medals in sports where historically we have never had a prayer before.
Have been watching quite a bit. One thing I like about the coverage I have seen this year is that they let you see mostly the whole event once they start one. I hated the way they did it in previous years where they would start to show you a volley ball game and cut away to many other things. You start to get interested in the flow of an event and wham something else is there. Anyway in general I think the coverage has been pretty good and with the number of outlets they have going you can get to see quite a variety of stuff.

Ireland aren't doing too badly either. 60% of their boxers are now guaranteed medals. The quote of the week must be the one from their coach on BBC this morning. When asked about their success he said "The Irish have always been good at fighting".
My brother is over there and sending periodic updates as to his adventures. The only telecasts there are Chinese winning gold - no other medal "counts" and in fact he saw a Chinese reporter consoling the silver place winner in some event (I forget what...). That's sad, but, that's how it is.
Winning ANY Olympic medal is a goal many children have and having had that dream myself, I am completely sucked in by the Olympics. I really loved the American women that won the rowing trying to sing the National Anthem. they stunk at it, but they had heart, and to me, that's what it's about. this one's for you, from America, belt it out best you can!
But, as usual, I could do without the media. I just did not appreciate them focusing on LoLo's tragic stumble instead of talking to THE WINNER. At least they didn't spend too much time spying on her 'private misery.'
The events themselves have been great. I'm not getting a lot of sleep ; )

And I thought is was only the British media that acted that way. The way things are going, the press and TV coverage will be complaining that they ONLY won Gold.
