What do you think now? USC is number 5 in the country. After we trounce UCLA on Saturday, we will be in our 4th consecutive Rose Bowl.
7 consecutive PAC-10 championships. 7 consecutive seasons with 10 or more victories.
USC's offense isn't spectacular, but USC's defense is MORE than spectacular. The rest of the BCS is lucky there isn't a playoff. USC is number 5, but I guarantee you that of the top 5, USC is one of the teams that others wouldn't want to draw in a playoff.
USC's defense is very good this year. To me it's hard to tell how good because of how bad the PAC 10 was this year. The conference Utah was in was much better than the PAC 10 this year.
Whenever I watched USC this year, the team as a whole seemed underwhelmed by their opponent. There was not too much excitement caused by a worthy opponent.
The others that the others would not want to draw are the other four.
If I were a coach, I'd be most fearful of Florida and Oklahoma right now. Very impressive on both sides of the ball. Having said that, I probably just assured Alabama and Mizzou of wins tomorrow.....

Please excuse me, I'm a Dick. Not a moron just a Dick
So, it would be Texas playing for the National Championship instead of Oklahoma. A fairly equal swap.
Did anyone notice that McCoy was named Big I Just Can't Myself to Say It player of the year, while Bradford was named the quarterback on the All Big I Just Can't Bring Myself to Say It team.
That's parity.
Of course, that left out Daniels, Reesling, Harrell . . .

It amuses me that the conference that includes teams that used to be known for the wishbone, triple option, etc now features so many good QB's. I wonder what Switzer and Osborne think.....
Once again, a non-BCS school takes down a top BCS team, proving the difference in the caliber of competition is minimal, at best. Utah didn't just beat Alabama, they dominated them. The best defensive efforts I've seen in the bowl games have been from TCU and Utah, 2 non-BCS schools. I'm not arguing that Florida and Oklahoma aren't the 2 best teams in the country, but teams like an undefeated Utah should have a legitimate shot at the national championship.

No it doesn't. It proves that the SEC and Big-12 are as over rated as it ever was. The entire Big-12 plays no defense, so their offenses look better than they actually are.
Looking at who is losing to whom. It is obvious that the SEC and Big-12 out of conference scheduling of patsy D-1aa teams makes them look way better than they actually are. Alabama should have never been rated as high as it was. Same with Texas Tech.
Utah was fantastic last night. And, the MWC conference was excellent this year. They prove they belong as a BCS conference.
The PAC-10 went 5-0 in its bowl games. Winning when it matters at the end of the season.
USC does it again. Look at this track record over the past 7 years:
7 consecutive PAC-10 championships.
7 consecutive BCS Bowl games. 6-1 record.
3 consecutive Rose Bowl victories.
7 consecutive 11+ win seasons.
7 consecutive top 5 finishes nationally
13-2 record against AP Top 10 teams
2 National Championships
3 Heisman Trophies
28-0 in November
13-1 against its traditional rivals of UCLA and Notre Dame
34 game winning streak included wins over 18 different top 25 teams
Out of the 9 losses in 7 years, USC never lost a game by more than 7 points. And the combined total of those losses is 36 points or 4 points per game.
USC is not afraid to play top BCS teams. It is consistently has amongst the toughest out of conference schedules in the country.
The only teams that beat USC are PAC-10 teams and teams with players named Vince Young.
If there is an 8-team playoff. USC has 4 or 5 undisputed national championships this decade. We destroyed Penn State and tOSU and we would destroy both Oklahoma and Florida.
Las Vegas would have USC as a favorite over any team in the country including Florida and Choklahoma. Any team that goes 0-4 in its last 4 BCS Bowls should lose any tie breaker for making the BCS Title game. The BCS Sucks and does nothing but create even more controversy as to who is the best team in college football. No matter who is the BCS Champion, USC and Utah both have an argument for being the best team in the country and should have a chance to settle it on the field.
Well, we can talk all day long about who the best team is. That wasn't the point. The point was that in 3 of the past 5 years a non-BCS school has beaten a BCS school in a BCS game, two of which were over teams that were 1 loss away from playing for the NC. All 3 of those non-BCS teams went undefeated (13-0). Yet the non-BCS schools aren't even given a sniff at the #1 ranking or NC game even when undefeated at the end of the regular season. They've proven that they're as good as the BCS schools on the field, yet they don't get a shot at a national title. I don't know that Utah wouldn't roll USC, or vice versa. And we never will. But we do know that Utah is better than Alabama, and beat Alabama more convincingly than did Florida. We know Utah beat the same OSU team that thumped USC, and Utah also beat TCU and BYU, two other top 20 teams. A case could easily be made that Utah's overall body of work is as impressive, or more so, than anyone elses. BTW, I'm not a Utah fan. In fact, I don't really care for them.
The problem is that there isn't a statistically significant sample of OOC games among the major conferences. One way to address this (short of entirely scrapping the current system) is to make those conferences that get automatic BCS bids play home and home series with the non-BCS schools. Or at a minimum forbid them from playing any FCS teams. Regardless, it's pretty apparent that the separation between the top BCS and top non-BCS teams is more and more one of perception and not reality. The results on the field have shown that to be the case.
