I just don't understand Sprint Cup racing, How can the money leader for the year be in 12 place in the points??

In Golf, the money leader may not be in first place in the several point standing they have but he would never be out of the top 3-5.

How can there be such a difference between the money won and the points won?

Google 'Nascar payouts' and it will give you all the info you need. In the current situation part of the reason that Matt Kenseth is in 12th place and still has the highest earnings is because he won the Daytona 500, which pays out either the most prize money or, if not, right near the top. There is a vast difference in prize money between the huge supertracks and a number of the very small tracks.
